Yall guys literally have one group surpass another every freaking comeback. According to most of you Oh My Girl, Brave Girls, Aespa, Gidle, Ive have all been the top girl group in SK within the last 2 years. Like zero understanding about public consciousness. I'll tell you what, there are people in South Korea who probably would still answer Wonder Girls or SNSD. Nothing changed for them in the last 15 years, absolutely. And for boy groups BigBang will probably get as many picks, if not more, as BTS.
Kpop fans, especially here on AKP, need to introduce the concept of "hot group" into their dictionary so that they don't always confuse it be the terms like "big", "successful" and etc

peak boomer energy here.
Just because older people want to cling on to who they used to know or like doesn’t negate the success of more recent artists. Ariana Grande and Drake don’t stop being some of the biggest acts in music just because someone’s mom or uncle doesn’t know them and only knows Madonna or Michael Jackson.

But Ariana and drake are among the biggest artists in the US, they have million albums sold, multiply numbers ones that’s not really a good example. The new acts are popular but doesn’t mean they’re the biggest artists, trendy is a better term.

fair enough. I think I was thrown by the OP referencing old-times Kpop groups rather than contemporary “big” groups, like Twice and BP. More younger people would reference those groups than Wonder Girls or SNSD.
I was just trying to go after the fact that there is a large subsection here that bases everything on 2nd Gen, when there are whole generations who have grown up without that really as a defining touch point. They know Key or Taeyeon from Amazing Saturday, not their groups.
Perhaps a better example here would be Megan thee Stallion and Doja Cat? Again, just because your auntie doesn’t know them doesn’t mean they aren’t big with a younger audience.

so you're basically saying only blackpink is successful and twice is not seeing as korea only seems to answer them when asked about who they know on gallup?
I mean power to you.
But success is determined by hard facts and numbers for me not something arbitrary like "korea" knows this and this which is hard to measure.
Aespa or whomever don't have "Legacy" but they are indeed successful in this point of time. Because they've had album sales and digital hits. It's not some hard concept.
2nd gen stans hiding behind legacy is always funny tbh lol.
