I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion because there are many success stans or just normal kpop stans that want their fave's success to be acknowledged that thrive off the year end awards, or people who just enjoy the drama of it all, however with the present state of kpop award shows I think they should just be done away with have more year end festivals where there's no voting, no drama, no fighting, no rigging, no robbery, just performances and collabs

Why have I come to this conclusion? Well...

the kpop industry and culture simply can't foster non-toxic award shows. If you try and award groups on artistic merit (which is already difficult because of how manufactured and homogenous kpop music is) and you don't award the most popular groups, their fans will throw a fit, saying the show is biased and demand you give awards based on objective criteria like charts, sales, or voting. But if you only give out awards based on these objective criteria, the same groups will win over and over again at every show and it becomes predictable and boring as nobody else has a chance to win.

Why do we need to have an official award ceremony for the person that had the most successful song of the year, most successful group of the year, etc.? we already know who it is, that's an achievement in itself, do they really need a trophy to make their achievements real?

Also must we really make idols sit in uncomfortable plastic chairs for like 4 hours, not allowed to move or even make an expression and force them to watch a million performances?

I agree, this is one of the major things holding me back from stanning Aespa, SM is pushing that mysterious AI image in them and not letting them be authentic or organic to the public. Yes perfection is desired in kpop but so is relatability and rawness. I think if SM let Aespa be more natural during stages and do more variety people would stop comparing them to robots

I have to admit my first impressions about this debut were wrong. I knew they wouldn't flop because they had Wonyoung and Yujin, however the song was disappointing upon first listen and I thought it wasn't very gp friendly, but now I have the song on my playlist and the reception is shockingly good

I agree people shouldn't hype or not hype idols for their nationality because it's the talent that matters, however I also agree with the other side of the argument which is that if kpop has all these different East Asian nationalities represented (Korean, Japanese, Chinese) then shouldn't they have more South East Asian representation? Why aren't trainees from those countries selected? Is it because of lack of interest or is it discrimination?

i think underage plastic surgery should be illegal for all minors, everywhere (unless for medical reasons of course), there is no "but personal freedom!" argument when it comes to minors, just like minors can't get tattoos (although some countries let them with parent permission, but I'm still against), drink, or smoke. It's ill-advised to let people so young make permanent changes to their body and it pushes lookism on people so young.

there's a difference between a group having a signature sound/concept and releasing the same song over and over again, for example Red Velvet recognizable sound but few would say they re-release the same songs, when kpop groups release songs with the same structure and similar lyrics it does become predictable and boring.

This type of generalization is either ignorance or delusion. I agree that people have a tendency to act like all western artists are miles above kpop and ignore the talentless/manufactured western artists, however western music has a much greater variety and originality than kpop, and many more western artists sing live and write their own music,
