trainee debt
All the different forms of power abuse that go down in the industry
The fandom culture
oh, I was thinking more pet peevish kinda things, but yeah. I agree with all of those and I'll add the pervasive colorism.
Forced dieting and expecting everyone to be really thin
I think companies don't like to discourage obsessive behavior too much coz they feel like obsessive fans drive sales and streaming. So profits over their idols' mental health and safety
That there are so many great groups so I wanna buy badges for them but at the same time I want to buy petitions for even more groups which is overwhelming
But for a real dislike: companies have really been driving up merch prices lately and I do not enjoy it
Also SM hating money. Please reprint your albums your fans are suffering
I didn't realise this was a pet peeve of mine until this week but when a kpop idol posts a song recommendation and the fans start overanalysing it and making speculations about what the idol is feeling. All an idol with have to do is post a sad sounding songs and you've got fans going "Oppa must be depressed after a tough breakup, I wonder who broke his heart ".
It's just cringy and weird, as if they think idols can't listen to a song without there being a deeper meaning behind it
trainee debt
I can't believe that idols can release successful songs and end their career with practically nothing
Forced dieting and expecting everyone to be really thin
I hate when i see idols talk about eating only a cup of food or eating ice to try to get to those crazy standards
I can't believe that idols can release successful songs and end their career with practically nothing
its awful
i dont even know how companies are allowed to put trainees (some of them are even minors) under so much debt
like i read about stayc who are doing very well and their trainee debt and it really made me sad
As the company is a small one, they follow the general rule that trainees will fully get paid after their trainee and debut debt has been fulfilled. (WTF??)
Their CEO stated that STAYC is close to breaking even, and he estimates that the girls will start being paid from middle to end of 2022. This doesn’t mean the girls go hungry in the meantime though! He clarified that by “paid”, he means that only then the girls will be able to take back home a sum of money they can be proud of. (IS THIS SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT?)
Most companies don’t take the full cut from their artists to pay off their trainee debts. Instead, they take a large percentage of it until the debt is paid. Although this means the debt takes longer to pay off, at least the artists don’t go without money in the meantime. (LMAO??)
Congrats to STAYC for their achievements! Most take longer than a year to pay things off. (AGAIN IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MAKE ME HAPPY??)

Lol i didn't think the 10 akorns fee would be a big deal but it adds up!

Right? Maybe they just like the way the song sounds. Naw, that can't be it. Lol
It's just like when an idol happens to glance at another idol. "THEY'RE DATING!"
Where do I even start? If I were to list everything, we could be here all day. That being said, you mentioned you meant is more like a pet peeve, so I'll say one of my pet peeves about K-Pop is idols not sticking up for themselves. There's a huge difference between being kind and being a pushover and I wish they'd get brave enough to speak up when something makes them uncomfortable. It took me a while to realize that, so maybe it's the same for them and the companies, but it still bothers me. Have a great day/night!
Kpop fans ruin kpop
also company stanning, it's so strange lmao

Omg this
hmmm...reading the above the one I have most issues with are the crazy fans whether saesangs or antis or whatever...
I actually have no issues with trainee debt...
but for the company providing the training one would have incurred all those expenses personally right? I mean vocal, speech, dance, language lessons aren't free...
I think it should be wages + percentage of earnings from concerts, MV's, streams, sales, etc.
that way its more proportional to the effective work they did.
(heck if I were to run a kpop company I would also give the idol a few shares of the company, that way they also directly benefit if the company is doing well)
The formulaic song structure (gotta include that little rap verse even if its out of place amirite)
and just generally a diminished say of what the idols would like to do. There is often little creative input into the product that the idols have to display.
(this has little solution to it lmao) but there isn't a sort of "outsider powerhouse" or the "one man army" types out there. Fei Xiang, for example became wildly popular in china and the US not due to any company support or rolling with the industry. He just showed up, did his thing, and boom, natural popularity. I guess what I was kinda looking for was a immensely popular idol that the established systems can't really do anything about.)
^^this is from my knowledge of him and may be inaccurate.
one other thing I've seen in this thread but i'll say it again. High notes are not always the good notes. I gotta say that some songs make the idols sound paper thin. like ??? it sounds like strain, stress, and a sore throat.
I will probably never live to see when it happens, but when can we bring the power that we see in opera to the kpop scene? Like where is that meaty, indestructible long legato note that silences the crowd, winds them up and releases them into applause afterwards. I miss the epic sustains of yesteryear.
Not every song needs a dance. Period. Stand there, tall, proud, and focus your power into your mic and it will still be epic. No need for exhilarating moves that honestly don't mean much in the terms of the meaning of the song.
Jumping of off that -- there is oft a void of meaning in dances. some of it just is there to look nice and makes no sense in the grand scheme of things. (that cheapens the dance in my view.) that is not to say flairs and general vibing to the beat or all dance is meaningless but when you are waacking and singing about being depressed (as a hyperbole example) it just doesn't match.

Beauty standard
kpop stan
I hate hate hate loud music, which is why I hate Treasure, I hate boy groups, I hate fans, I hate ktube, I hate onces, I hate unique singing, I hate bangs, I hate blonde hair unless it's on chan, I hate unfunny and try hard idols, I hate idols with too much plastic surgery that it makes them look scary, I hate dyed hair especially if it's damaged, I hate cutting hair short, I hate cutting long hair, I hate makeup skills and foundation 1000 shades lighter then skin, I hate contacts, I hate that ugly blush the makeup stylist keeps putting on twice, I hate the I can't stop me makeup, I hate obvious rhinoplastys, I hate bad MV directing, I hate boring songs, and I hate hate hate rapping.
I don't like how companies debut groups with no information or emphasis bout their sound or concept, just emphasis on their members (pre debut history etc.) Like, the best part of being a fan is seeing how their concept and sound grows, pre-debut history will not matter in a few years, please plan your concepts more fucking christ! I'm looking at you Cravity!
