Top GGs are Big 3, but not the Top BGs, why?

Maybe because girl groups rely more on the gp than boy groups so coming from a company with less recognition, connections and resources puts GGs at more of a disadvantage than BGs in the same situation.

BGs can build a core fanbase with just appealing to the more engaged Kpop community without much public recognition, eg every 4th gen boy group.

Is Wonder Girls really unquestionably top 3 for second gen? I don't know much about second gen, but I have seen people here saying that WG/ Kara/ Sistar level of success was pretty similar.

And I think it's too soon to conclude anything about 4th gen.

Boy groups are less successful with the GP, usually there is only one who is hugely popular and who is the most popular group in Korea and reigns supreme. They are usually the ones who carry and influence the whole industry.

TVXQ > BIGBANG > BTS > ???

Boy groups benefit more from the globalisation of kpop as outside of East Asia stanning a pop group is more a female/boy group combo. Males stanning girl groups in the west is still a bit out there whereas in East Asia it's fairly normal.

Girl Groups will still mainly have their fandom confined to East Asia where the big 3 name has a bigger pull/legacy and its more "normal" for both sexes to follow girl groups. It's why boy groups not popular in Japan/SK/China can now sell near a million yet a girl group is not selling massive amounts without those markets.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see the pattern become more prevalent as boy groups can get massive sales purely from markets where the big 3 legacy/hype is not so renowned.

Because Enhypen is the revolution.

For becoming Top from non big3, need a hit song ww & keep outpeaking themselves with every cb.

Any non big3 gg could do it ever? No.

Any non big3 bg could do it? Yes.

One hit wonder won't make anyone TOP.

Imo any 2nd generation idol who could pull off an audience as massive as Tokyo dome is already more famous than a hit maker. Or could sell a single album above 700k when it was rare especially for a GG. Despite T-ara’s bigger peak and WG lasting longer. KARA for me belongs in the big 3.

Because ggs are more popular with the gp so coming from a big 3 is a great help, most of them have hits before even being 1 year old, while ggs from smaller companies usually take longer time to get noticed and when they do, big 3 ggs already have advantage over them.

Bgs don't rely on gp and fandom is less monopolized by big 3
