Ageism in kpop?

Idolism centers pretty heavily on youth and desirability.

In general, they all look a bit younger than their age

Maybe it's cause i'm Asian too but i agree that most idols look their age, a decent amount look older than their age. And this isnt a bad thing at all, it's just that like you said, there is a stigma attached to older idols.

I agree that idols don’t look their age like SuJu for example. They’re all well into their 30’s but could be construed as still being in their 20’s as they’re still ageing well. It really shouldn’t make a difference if the music is still good and idols are still popular. It’s interesting how fans call 30’s old though but I guess for some teen fans it is.

GG promoting post 30 and somewhat successful is unicorn like...

I would really like to see some older groups. Sojin and Hyosung are my favourite idols (I still even watch their vlogs), and they're in their 30's. The mature concepts of Girl's Day and Secret where women actually look like women seem to be going extinct. I want to see more dresses and heels.

I can also understand why older idols might not want to put up with the BS of the industry anymore.

I like a few cute concepts, but I don't like girl crush at all. In general, I would prefer they make idols look older instead of younger.

I always underestimate Idols' age a bit so these videos are not far-fetched for me. Ageism is a true problem in Kpop though. The way that some people here talk about idols who are more than 25 years old is sickening.

haha, i never thought about it. im just happy that they are next to all the other big names.

there isnt anything more rare than a unicorn. In Heroes of might and magic 3 you can upgrade unicorns to war unicorns. But im not sure if the girls would like that title. So unicorn should be fine.^^

but my point isn't neccessarily to give praise to bg but show the limited time frame for gg and ageism

the limited time frame is well known i guess. it would be nice if we could do something against it.

So the Zennials struggles (too young to Millennials, too old to Gen Z) are also shared with Xennials?

sorry my knowledge of the second gen and prior are very limited...

even SNSD didn't all renew (even if we're counting OT8) and they haven't had a cb since what 2015 as ot8 or 2018 as Oh! GG

I find this weird and ageist, but I get where it comes from.

It's an expected behavior since the major Kpop fandom is made by teenagers/young adults and they still have the mentality that being +25 is being mature and a senior (I've been called an auntie and I'm not even mid 20s yet lmao).

Also, it implies that late 20yo and 30yo adults (young af people) are on the verge of death, like wtf?

But ngl that being Asian helps with their young looks and tho they might look their age by other Asian people, non-Asians can find it amusing how young they look.
