Are we experiencing a generational shift?

Yep. This year has just cemented it for me. The 3rd Age is coming to a close...
-
lightsum literally debuted they are Cube's 4th generation girl group
G idle is between generations if anything
I don't know I still think 3rd gen is going strong with bp and bts

I think so. It’s a case of out with the old and in with the new.

I mean thank you for proving my point as they're really the only 3rd gen groups going strong. OMG too but they peaked much later. There used to be multiple 3rd gen groups ruling the charts but now groups like ITZY, STAYC and Aespa are outcharting top 3rd gen groups.
+ add on the fact that 3rd gen groups are also disbanding or losing members
-
since people are bringing up social media like tiktok
weren't bp the first ones that created a tiktok account in 2018 ? Rosie was pretty much active there it's not a 4rd generation thing it depends of the group
bp has 23 M followers and 181. 7M likes on tiktok and blackpink is on the way to have the most YT subscribers.

G idle is not 4th gen though what about brave girls (2nd generation) and they probably had the biggest hit this year
-
it seems like the girls are doing very well this year
The guys are still being overshadowed by bts tho
This.

yes, aside from top 2 groups, the rest of 2012-2015 groups are stagnant and slowly going into hiatus/losing members/not renewing
oh my girl/bg are the exception, but groups becoming bigger later in their career and competing with younger ones always happen in kpop
also the generational shift shows when the major companies start debuting new idols and losing the older ones
- cube debuted a new gg this year and their 3rd gen gg, CLC, is slowly disappearing. members from their bgs BTOB and Pentagon are enlisting
- rbw debuted Purple Kiss and Wheein from MMM didn't renew and it seems they are going into hiatus
- sm debuted aespa + nct 2020 project while their older groups have longer hiatus and their older bg members are enlisting
etc
also, gfriend disbanding while new ggs from new agencies like stayc rise
-

SG Wannabe too, but things like that always happen. wonder girls, highlight and bigbang were getting hits after 3rd gen started (2016), that didn't change the fact 3rd gen was ruling from 2015 onwards
