Which one is better for a song instant success with zero longevity or steady growth with longevity?

Steady growth with longevity. Those songs are usually more memorable too imo.

Gee by SNSD for example had a massive initial success but didn’t have longevity yet is a big song and memorable but that is not the case for many songs so I kinda agree with your opinion.
Last year we had Refund sisters with Don’t touch me it got PAKs and went #1 so fast, got roofhits and even blocked Dynamite yet the song after less than 20 weeks flopped miserably already out of all the charts.

I don’t care about those groups. I mean SuJu and other groups who don’t get a lot of views anyway. They take ages to get any decent numbers but they’re still memorable like Mr Simple for example. I’m not a big believer in songs getting too big too quickly.

A song that spends more than 50 weeks on Melon is not fandom power.
There isn’t a single fandom able to pull that much weeks alone.
-
Real, huge hits have both.
Usually it depends on the song though. If you peak high but fall much later, it means that you had hype but your song isn't remembered or being actively consumed afterwards in most cases. So I prefer having longevity.
Have both is In fact the best thing.

Views is one thing and korean charts are another lol.

Well if a fandom truly loves a song that much, it's very possible. I mean ULs are at an alltime low on Melon, you only need like 60k to chart on Melon. There are 750k followers of BTS on Melon. You only need like 7 percent of them to stream a song each day to get a song to chart. Other groups have like 200k+ followers, but even these groups can keep a song going if the song is catchy enough.

Look who cares okay? The principle is the same imo. Steady as she goes.
Many kpop songs have good views and flopped on korean charts.
They are not equal.

750k followers but how many active ones? No idea Why are you bringing BTS here anyways their longevity is truly insane you don’t get the longest charting song in history thanks to fandom mass streaming....

750k x .07 is 52.5k.
Going by the daily chart of May 13th (https://xn--o39an51b2re.com/melon/dailychart/2021/05/13), 52.5k would place them around #130 on Melon, not anywhere close to its current position of #8.

He always does that because he doesn't understand how BTS is the one group to have the best longevity.

For smaller groups, an instant #1 is more important
True, it gives them visibility therefore more opportunities for shows and more.

lol i wasnt referring to any song specifically, just making a point. You only need like 10 percent of a giant fandom to love a song so much that they listen to it once per day to chart on Melon. Even fandoms that are much smaller than Army, like Blinks, Onces, etc can keep a song charting for a year IF they love it that much. Army has a special advantage because they're a much bigger fanbase but even the smaller Kpop fanbases can do it.
That's why peaks matter more, since you need both GP and fanbases to get #1 on Melon.

From what I've seen, most people on this site like songs that aren't instant successes nor have longevity but they still call them Song of the Year...

Fanbase love is not powerful enough to keep a song charting; you really underestimate the role non-fans ,who just happen to like the song, play.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think followers are a true representation of fandom size. It's mainly GP imo. IU has 733k followers on Melon(only 20k less than BTS) but you don't see anyone saying her longevity is because of fandom. Lim Youngwoong probably has the most dedicated fanbase in Korea along with BTS but they can barely chart. Fandom power isn't enough to keep yourself charting past the first hour or first few days.

That only means GP enjoyed BTS'S music so much, they followed BTS on Melon then they became their fans eventually.
Only BTS can do that, btw... I mean convert GP around the world enmasse to become avid fans. See where BTS is now? On top of the world 😁
