is it safe to say 3rd gen is the best generation of kpop?

For me, yes. The music is great. The idols are generally likeable, memorable and talented at the same time.
-
More like 3rd gen is the last actually good and fun generation. Since the 4th it's bland with a couple of exemptions.
I don't see the REAL FUN of Kpop anymore, and I'm not talking about the music.
This!
The best imo is 2nd gen with 3rd gen having great moments and groups.

The third generation is my favorite, but there is a huge gap between the popularity of the top and smaller groups, due to their growth in the West.
The second generation is the most balanced overall.
The fourth generation has strong girl groups, but lags behind due to the lack of domestic popularity of the boy groups.
The fifth generation has not brought anything new to the table yet.

2nd gen is basically the last gen where male and female Idols can have a chat without being afraid of fans.
Imagine a female Idol kissing a male Idol on his cheek. Kinda miss this fangirl IU. 😂

Because it has Day6 so yes it's the best
-
2nd Gen was less polished and more explorative with genres, which I love ❤️
-
2nd gen all the way

I got into kpop in 2019 so that is the best generation

Everyone was in love with Taeyang back in the day. Even Lee Hyori had a nice moment with TOP.😂

2nd gen had groups performing with juice cartons on their heads, what can 3rd offer?

-
IMO as a generation it's second. Huge variety of concepts, minimal fan wars coz charting wasn't so important, tonnes of variety show content and cross group interactions.
It was the most fun period of Kpop IMO, before all the competitiveness and mean-spiritedness of 3rd gen and 4th gen became the standard

Who???????I get not knowing GWSN, but Weki Meki and especially WJSN was very popular, they even outcharted Blackpink in their peak. Their most popular member EXY wrote multiple great songs. She wrote IVE's Heya as well.
Bona is also a very popular member, especially as a Kdrama actress.
Are you sure you're a multistan? 🤣

I was kinda kidding, Ive heard their names (weki meki is hard name to forget) but no they are not groups I know anything about or have listened to.

To be fair, I'm not a massive WJSN fan either, I only follow EXY and Bona, she's a really good actress, and EXY is a great rapper too.
I don't know anything about Weki Meki other than their name.🤣

You didn't know WJSN outcharted BP in 2019? Also, they won Queendom Part 2 as well.
Okay, technically they only charted better than BP much later than BP's KTL. 😂 But they were still very popular.
To be fair, I don't think Starship's gonna do anything with them now that they have IVE and KiiiKiii.

2nd Gen was perfect except for a certain soloist who had inserted herself there and caused about 00% of all the problems in that generation.

3rd first
4th next
Last is 2nd gen

You just don’t remember the fan wars because time has made you forget. Charting and fan wars were always been a huge part of kpop fandom life. People went to war for their second gen groups with some crazy stories. If. Anything the fan wars are more tame now with just online fighting.

By number alone 2nd generation is better:
- higher ratio of groups that could chart
- higher ratio of groups could won music shows
- more groups survived the "7 years curse"
- for the girl groups, the 80% percentile of 2nd generation sold more physical albums than 80% percentile of 3rd generation. The only things better in 3rd generation are the very top groups did better. For the average/mid groups (which are most of groups), especially girl groups it was actually worse.
2nd generation had by far the best and most entertaining music and songs.
You can always argue about skills and quality, but that is an other queastion.
2nd generation has objective most skilled vocalists of all generations, and it's not even close. After 20 years, Kyuhyun and Lina are still the best male and female vocalist.
