Yes, you are 100% a sucker if you buy such overpriced merchandise. Whether or not you like the artist enough to do so or whether or not you can afford it is completely irrelevant. It's about fair value. Just because there are people willing to overpay for something, that does not mean they aren't overpaying. There are people who like to gamble. That doesn't make it a smart use of their money.

well you're free to think that but I just don't agree. If you are living paycheck to paycheck and buying this merch to serve your queen LaLisa, then yes you are a sucker. If you are someone like me, who could buy this entire line of merch without a problem, then I just see that as someone spending the money they have how they want, not a sucker. Same with gambling.

I don't think how much money you have to spend is the deciding factor here, nor should it be, considering these are not even premium luxury items. They're overpriced casual wear & knicknacks. If a person who makes $200K a year is buying an item for $100, and a person who makes only $50K a year is buying essentially the same item for $10, do you not think this casts a negative light on the former's spending habits? Even rich people who can afford literally anything they want will tell you they don't make a habit of carelessly wasting money. The ones who do, don't stay rich for long.

Look all I'm saying is that someone who has the money and buys this merch is not a sucker in my eyes, they know what they are buying and how much it costs. Do you know what's taking advantage of fans?? It's asking for charts positions almost always, asking for awards, saying how you would love if your fans gave you x or y records for years and never being satisfied with the results, always wanting more, who does this?? Who is treating fans as if they are there just to give them fame?

Volume =/= Profit.
This is how luxury goods work. You have to gatekeep, so there is a difference between the haves and the have nots. It differentiates the casual fans from the hardcore fans.
Less volume but higher prices == more profit margin.
All the luxury brands that went down the road of making 'cheaper' versions of itself eventually lost prestige and lost market share.
Would you rather sell 10 items to make the same profit as selling 2-3 items? There is a finite number of people that'll buy Lisa merch. Decreasing price won't make people buy more.
