5-7 seems to be the most common , but i think 4 is the best because each member gets more attention, although odd numbered groups do look more aesthetically pleasing for choreo. Groups 6+ there’s always that member or two who hardly gets any lines or mv time. 5 is a good happy middle.

5 has always been the norm tho, Backstreet boys, nysync , spice girls, fifth harmony, one direction, beatles, coldplay, maroon 5, black eye peas etc... and ofc the greatest group of all time BIGBANG

If I had to give a straightforward answer, it likely comes down to choreography and dance formations. Odd-numbered groups tend to work better; while three is too few, seven can be manageable but complicates things more, even with 6 is hard - I remember heya choreography Rei had to run a full lap just to get back in formation 😂

In answering the thread, I guess labels thought 5-member groups would have fair camera time and anything beyond that was too much?

That would be rounded up to 5 members anyway.

Also, how do you split a person to .63......?????

Let's not think about that.

If I remember correctly ILLIT also lost a member before debut.

Le Sserafim and G-Idle lost a member to make them 5.

Red Velvet added a member to make them 5.

Apink lost a few members and they are now 5 (sometimes 4).

Lossemble and ARTMS, well that is a whole story on how they got to 5 each.

Fifty fifty is also 5 members now, that was also a wild story.
