With Idols getting dragged for their live vocals recently… Should music shows remove Encores ?

  • Should they remove Encores as we know them now? 53

    1. Yes (4) 8%
    2. No (49) 92%

Unfortunately, many groups have exposed their vocal limitations during encores, resulting in significant criticism, sometimes to the extent that it negatively impacted their careers.

While it's understandable that Kpop fans shouldn't expect Adele or Whitney Houston-level vocals from idols, there is a reasonable expectation that they should be able to perform the songs they recorded in the studio. Some may attribute poor singing to exhaustion, but it's noteworthy that not all groups struggle vocally after intense choreography. This suggests that those who struggle significantly may already have weaker vocal abilities.

Additionally, it's disheartening to observe how anxious some idols appear after winning because they are afraid to mess up vocals. And now they even come out to apologize afterwards.

Do you believe it would be better to remove encores altogether or, at the very least, remove the requirement to sing live?

Instead, allowing idols to express gratitude to their fans or engage with them in other ways after a win might spare many groups, especially newer generations, from exposing their vocal weaknesses.

  • A question, I know nuft about audio

When they do encore - do they have in-ear? Or can’t they hear themselves?

  • no, encores shouldn't been taken so seriously in the first place. half the time it was just them having fun after winning on a music show and just messing around

It never used to be about whetheror not they could sing...it was all about them having fun celebrating a win, seems like only in the past year people started to nitpick every little damn thing now.

  • no because that's how we can appreciate idols raw vocals ( I'm not saying it in a negative way) but genuinely appreciate their voices since we always focus on dancing and performance only. Most of the time the encore is the way to show they can really sing since music shows usually use backing track or even lip-synch

  • No?

The whole point of becoming a singer is to sing lol.

Companies keep debuting people who can't sing. That's on them.

Like, when the group has a concert, they are expected to sing live right? Then it's better if fans know what they are paying for before hand.

The whole point of performing on music shows is not to convince companies to give you a CF deal. Or to get a spot on a magazine cover. It's to convince people that it's worth listening to your music, it's worth paying to go to festivals and concerts to see you perform, and that it's worth being your fan.

Singing should not be an afterthought. That should be the main event. That's your main job. Everything else is extra.

Otherwise, you're just a model/actress/influencer, who dances and MAY be able to carry a tune.

But, so many groups have been exposed for having bad lives, and that actually hasn't really affected their careers tbh. ILLIT is still #1 on melon, LSFM is still #7 and #10, IVE still hit #1 with their last comeback, and Aespa, who is known not to sing live, still got top 3 with their last song. You get a lot of hate for it, but at the end of the day, no one really cares. I'd say it's more strenuous on their mental health than it is on their career success.

  • Honestly, my only problem with encores is that Idols have to sing (or try to sing) early in the morning, they should do the show later, so Idols can sleep well.

But HELL NO, singing live at least on an average level should be the standard, not being cute or sexy.

If they can't sing, at least use backtrack and do lip sync. I won't criticize them for the same reason what I said above.

  • Let me throw what seems like a crazy idea for kpop stans recently

WHAT ABOUT BRINGING REAL KPOP BACK

I'm talking about a time where idols were trained to be SINGER, DANCER, PERFORMER, ACTOR AND VARIETY SHOW STARS

I'm not saying that every idols use to sing like whitney houston or used to dance like the twins

But an era where even if you would put the weakest vocalist on stage during an encore stage or after 30 min of performance they would still sound like they did 30 minutes ago

I mean yoona was never a strong vocalist and was always call a very weak vocalist but you never saw her in a singing controversy even after 15years of activity

They were not strong vocalist but they were always stable vocalist

Kpop fans especially international kpop fans have lower and lower their standard to protect their favs and give them a free pass to not hold them accountable for the mistake they do on stage.

And to me kpop idols are slowly turning into jpop idols

Because what used to differenciate them is that kpop used the same things than kpop but added the focus on skills that's why they took off and kpop idols were seen as "too perfect " before

But now we are in an era where kpop idols are turning into jpop, where they no longer focus on the skills, but where the performance and having fun on stage is being the #1 aspect to the detriment of singing, dancing etc....

  • Absolutely not or we would never have performances like this

If some kpop groups are bad at singing live or just don't want to do it then they should have the option of not doing it, but canceling encores just because some groups can't sing properly when majority in theory can (it's their job??!!) is just silly.

narcissistic, my god i love it

  • This is why I don't really mind official positions. Who cares if the visual/main dancer/sub-vocalist or the visual/center/fotg/rapper/sub-vocalist (or whatever combo) is a bad singer when it's in writing that they're not in the group to be a good one in the first place? It'd be like making an entire video/post/thread hating Momo for not being a good singer and I'd look like the idiot beating a dead horse.

edit: tbh it's not like their ability to sing even impacts the group's bottom lines that much, all the hate but the groups still have fans and still chart well enough.

  • no because there are many groups which can deliver good encore stage

  • No. The backtrack can actually be heard in a lot of music shows encores but sometimes there is none to help the winner. Idols should be able to sing their songs decently at the very least. Companies should debut more skilled singers or help the ones that they really want to debut for others reasons like visual or popularity to improve. The trainee system seems to focus way more on dancing than singing. It's a problem because you can't make a song with a dance, you need vocals otherwise it's a choreography. I understand that some idols can be anxious and mess up their encore because of that. That's why they need help. Companies who can afford it should have one vocal coach by group at least, and a good one.

And everyone should calm down about it but we are talking about the over-competitive and often toxic Kpop community who will witch-hunt a group based on whatever flaw that they can find.
