Will the sexy concept ever be a big thing again?

  • the new gidle song reminded me and a lot of people of a 2nd gen song and it just got me thinking about how the sexy concept is just not really a thing anymore.

I get that many may not have liked it cause it caters more to guys, but even as a girl I loved the sexy concepts. Like aoa for example. they were so cool and elegant and all their songs were super good.

I just wish that there could be some again. I'm sick of these girl crush girl power songs. I want something sexy, classy, and elegant.

  • I would say "sexy concepts" is not really a concept at all, or it's always there in a way or other.

But people seems to mean "looking cool" as sexy concepts ("sexy and cool"), but you have a lot of sexy/cute concepts too.

  • Well, the idols' age is not the even ths reason why the concept is no longer popular. It's simply because it's not as profitable, as it can't attract a hardcore loyal fanbase. As we all know, most kpop fans who willingly to spent their money on kpop are female.

In this generation, we will only get a sexy concept paired with a girl crush for the purpose of women's empowerment. Just like what Bp & Gidle does. Yet, Twice might have that slightly sexy, classy and elegant concept that you want.

yeah I know what you mean. Like whether people like it or not newjeans and all these other groups are still trying to have sex appeal in someway, even if they're doing a cute concept.

I mean like the old 2nd gen way of doing a sexy concept.

yeah I really hate the stupid women's empowerment stuff, it just feels so fake but people still love it.

It's interesting to see how kpop has shifted so much to cater to women because they spend more, but by doing so it does make less room for different types of concepts, which could have the potential to succeed.

But yeah if they wanna make money in america they won't really have much luck if they tried to get guys into it cause they're just not into this kind of stuff.

Twice definitely does have the potential to pull that off, but twice just makes me miss the cute concept loel.

  • :() it's so fun though why

Exploitative, companies would either show no regard to whether their groups had minors or wait until the moment they turned legal, a ton of women where uncomfortable with those concepts and since it's extremely male targeted, there's no longevity or fandom strength to speak of so no payoff

I loved the bops but not the concepts

Yeah I get what you mean like with groups like stellar where things like that happened.

I think they were a pretty extreme case as their concept was a bit more intense than others.

but regardless of if it is a sexy concept, or whatever concept, I still feel like groups with minors are doing some very questionable things either way.

  • People got burnt out on it after it became so oversaturated, and a little wary after the Stellar incident, but it isn't completely gone.

There's still a decent range from classy and sensual, to full on NSFW raunchy.

  • In the past people who didn’t like it tended to ignore it but the world is going through a woke phase so everything they don’t like they’re going to do activism against. I don’t see sexy concepts like in gen 2 make a comeback.

  • I never thought sugar rush ride was sexy lol

But yea, give me more Red Lights kinda songs

  • If we notice what's happening in South Korea, it's clear that the public slowly taking interests in 5th gen bgs and soloist though, it seems they be the ones to set the next trend in music. I think we will get multiple natinal hits from bgs this year than ggs. Internationally, it should be since it's prob what's trending globally on Hot 100, Spotify top 50.

    :nervousk:

  • sexy concept died with 2nd gen...and unlikely to ever return because the label will immediately get accused by fans of exploiting the idols.

  • The sexy concept never went away. It simply changed forms.

But I hope the 2nd gen style of sexy concepts comes back. I really like it. Hopefully it can comeback without the problematic context of 2nd gen.

  • Where does this idea that male Kpop fans don't spend anything on Kpop come from? Because based on what I've seen, it seems largely unfounded. I also think people confuse the fickle nature of Korean male Kpop fans in particular with male Kpop fans in general. The Koreans are constantly dropping older girl groups and moving onto the next big (and young) thing, regardless of their concept. This doesn't mean everyone is. I could go on an entire rant about the nature of these behavioral trends, but I'll just leave it by saying that given their main audience, Kpop girl groups aren't necessarily even going to attract the most male fans by having a traditionally (or blatantly) sexy concept, so it probably makes little difference in their sales one way or the other.

I think sexy concepts still exist and always have, they're just not as widespread, and the sexy aspects of those concepts are more often downplayed or overshadowed by some other apect, so it's not as in-your-face. You think "girl crush" groups like Blackpink or G-Idle aren't trying to be sexy? Hardly. They just have something else to distact you with, like the "girl power" shtick. But those of us of the heterosexual male & lesbian persuasion notice everything. Everything.
