2023 Oricon year-end charts (physicals and revenue)- the lack of gg domination in Japan?

This revenue doesn't include concert and merchandise sales. twice is making bank via concerts in Japan too, but seems like the ggs do not sell as many albums.

NewJeans, Le Sserafim and IVE have great digitals on Japan, tho.

But, wow, Stray Kids and Seventeen's dominance on Oricon! Their invitation to Kouhaku after 12 years since the last korean boygroup's appeareance (Tvxq) is totally deserved.

This is just physicals. Digitally girl groups absolutely have presence. Huh?

I thought LSF had a Japanese single that sold well but was not in the top 100.

i dont think they included misamo tho

the main reason girl groups don't show up, with idols, especially oricon physicals are weighted more heavily, boy group do better much physically than girl groups

What I find more amazing is some of these acts physical sales Vs their digital charting and public recognition.

Like people really buy a few hundred copies and don't even listen to the songs of something?

And they're still in the top10 (the only kpop act in the top10 for digitals actually) in a year that they were on hiatus, BTS really are untouchable in japan

They did but they are counted on the Oricon Single chart, that's why you don't see them

I think if New Jeans, IVE, and LSFM promoted like Twice did in Japan, they could probably be dominate. Twice focused heavily in Japan by consistently dropping releases, going on music shows, and having Japanese CFs.

Ditto is pretty much this generations TT when it comes to crossover in Japan (Hype Boy and OMG to a lesser degree), and LSFM sold a crazy amount of singles.

IVE's Wave kind of underperformed imo, but that's mostly because Love Dive was so big at one point but Starship did not capitalize on it at the time and New Jeans/LSFM kind of came in and stole their thunder. Also doesn't help that their only Japanese member isn't amongst the most popular like MISAMO and Sakura/Kazuha.

Also have to consider the fact that Twice came up during a time that the hallyu wave had died down in Japan, and them and BTS pretty much resurrected that. Twice had literally no competition in terms of KPOP GGs in Japan and dominated by themselves. Cannot say the same for New Jeans, IVE, and LSFM who need to share a piece of the pie amongst themselves.

Wave? It’s a Japanese single there really do numbers in japan and their best selling single in japan.

The only true is that IVE besides I am none of their Korean titles this year are as big as LD/11/ AL.

I wouldn't call Wave an underperformance, maybe it will be once other 4th gen groups release jp singles.

I mean yeah, but in comparison to LSFM, it fell a little short. Especially considering how big Love Dive was.

They still did great, but if I am comparing them to LSFM's physicals and New Jeans digitals, they didn't quite match up.
