About Twice...

  • What affected Twice's longevity? 38

The result is only visible to the participants.

They've achieved so much in their career especially in the first seven years.

Why is there a concern about their current status?

They have good tour numbers but people sound like they are on their way down!?!

Is it too early for their relevance to drop?

  • I think they relied too much on a concept for too long. While it worked for a while, gp wont love somwthing that is easy to predict forever. People LOVE to be surprised. And at some point, Twice just became predictable. Even with the changes, not only it happened too late but JYP also played safe. The songs were fine but not memorable enough (sure fans may argue against that). It felt like they just gave up imo. Jyp didnt know how to make use of Twice's individual brand power either. Each Twice member had immense star power and popularity. How JYP managed to fumble that is an absolute waste. We won't see idols like Tzuyu, Sana, Nayeon, Mina & etc any soon.

narcissistic, my god i love it

A concept is very important to a group's success and I've noticed that diversity is the way to go.

Some groups always change their concepts even after a very successful year like Snsd did with Gee and Oh! Those comebacks made them legends but they didn't get comfortable, they ahead and took risks that pushed them to the next level.

And JYP is the worst at solo careers. Those girls would've utilized their prime time with solo careers as well to prepare them and keep them all busy when the group slowed down.

  • TWICE is keeping AKP alive atp.. like not a single day goes by without a thread about them :cryingr:

It can't be helped because they are one of Kpop's biggest stars ever. No one talks about flops.

  • Yeah sure :pepe-magnify:

Twice have very good tour numbers, people love to see them so when people claim that they are failing, it's surprising.

I don't know what motive you had creating your thread, so I'll just answer sincerely the question. I think JYPE knew that Korea didn't care for a mature Twice with what happened to Feel Special, so they started targetting the global market more with the songs (results showed with numbers). The latest songs that were picked were most likely so according to the members' taste and not "music market specialists" or whichever committee in JYPE took the decision before, resulting in Twice being successful solely on fandom metrics and not with GP metrics like before

  • I would change the title from affected to promoted.

Also they have good tour numbers? I would say amazing tour numbers.

And the only concern is for haters being haters.

  • Oh, and this really should go without saying, but we don't exactly need to start chronicling and eulogizing a girl group that can sell out stadiums and baseball arenas in the states.

I went to a stop on their Ready to Be Tour. Hard to feel like the end is nigh for a group when you're at a giant venue filled with nothing but people there to see them :pepe-shrug:

if 02 Arena in London literally shakes from the amount to people tapping their feet?

    I was there, had goosebumps.

I've been in K-Pop long enough to be amazed by and appreciate so many people coming together to see one group for their concert tour, not a festival or convention.

Lollapalooza aside (which is obviously a huge festival), I've never been around so many people in my life who were all gathered explicitly to see one group.

Twice fans got nothing to worry about.

It's not like the other 3rd gen girl groups can compete with the current top 4th gen groups on the Korean charts :pepe-shrug:

  • honestly? A world tour pays a lot more than charting.

Its this order: world tour > CF > albums > digitals > show appearance

  • Its this order: world tour > CF > albums > digitals > show appearance

Are we really in our Sone era?

I always hated when other fandoms used this argument. Because why do you think people buy tickets to your tour? Why do companies want you to advertise their shit? Why do shows invite you? Man, if Twice doesn't do anything about music and continue putting out Killing Me Good after Killing Me Good all of those things are gonna vanish like Thanos just snapped them.

Twice needs to chart, if not in Korea, then at least obally. They are failing to do both right now and yall don't realize how serious this is.

As if. The world has changed mate. Charts don't mean shit unless you are a rookie pushing through.

  • Personally, I think:

    1. JYP's decline in music production for Twice and as a company overall

    2. Not marketing to Korea in their later years/having trouble creating a song that is appealing to the GP 6-7 years in their careers. (They did well with Nayeon's solo though, but fell short again for Jihyo's solo)

    3. Lack of concrete sound as their music matured

They might not be as "popular" as they were before, but they'll be fine. All groups can't stay mega-popular forever. But I do think JYP has an issue with not knowing what to do with a group after they've been active for some time. The creative team seems to fall short, and the production quality fizzles out.

If the conversation is about the longevity and sustainability of a group, particularly girl groups (which is really only a relatively recent phenomenon), I agree.

That ish only matters if you're trying to discuss overall popularity and for groups trying to make their name.

Twice has already scored hit songs, sold tons of albums and have a huge fandom to fill stadiums and arenas. There is no "threat" to them, unless people are that bothered over not being the absolute top girl group in K-Pop anymore.

No group is going to own those metrics forever. A girl group to still thrive without relying solely on the general public is never going to be the negative people want it to be.

  • if anything I think they didn't ride the cute concept long enough, it was when they switched it up they fell off a bit (starting with Feel Special). Even then, the next three comebacks after that still did pretty well (and Alcohol-Free did better than ICSM) and The Feels did very well internationally.

It's pretty hard to trace when exactly it happened. Because even in 2021 when Alcohol-Free came out I remember hearing it out in public a lot and people generally still liking Twice. But now just two years later and they are kinda like The Rolling Stones or something, like they're an acknowledged legend but I don't think people really consider them a player in the digital charts or whatever (domestically obvs).

  • I would get 3Racha to write a song for them with lyrics from YoungK

    All in house.

    They would kill it.

What's this "our" shit? Thought you walked away from TWICE.

Cringing less because of Momo's vocals and more because... they seem like they just don't want to be there...

    Right???

  • The problem is and has always been JYPE.

Show me a JYPE group/artists that had an actual long and successful career in Korea.

Sure, these days are a lot better, but that's mainly because of the international fame, you take that away, and we go back to JYPE almost bankrupt days.

I think it is a joke to even put them in the same level as the other big companies, when most of their success came down to them just riding the wave that the other companies made.
