I would argue 2016 Twice is more popular than SNSD ever be, heck even Like Ooh Ah in 2016 or 2017 has more views than SNSD's Gee and 2NE1 I AM THE BEST. Time has changed, it is no rocket science that now a younger, trendier group is more popular than Twice

Even if they are I will forever live in my Once delusion, to me TWICE is the biggest girl group in the world.

When Dahyun joins Newjeans they will become an unstoppable juggernaut

NewJeans songs even peak high in Japan which is the only market Twice’s peak is higher than nJ’s still in terms of popularity of their songs.

Maybe in 1 or 2 years. When they start doing the stadium concerts, there is no dispute anymore.

NewJeans right now is probably more popular internationally than Twice ever was, yes.

As of now twice have a bigger fandom (touring numbers >), but I would still say newjeans is bigger internationally. If they keep it up, their touring numbers would also grow. It’s not like one of them is flopping anyways

Twice is still more established and famous amongst Kpop fans, but New Jeans is on the verge of going beyond that and is already reaching new audiences.

New Jeans has one of the biggest chances ever of going mainstream beyond the Kpop fandom sphere.

I am not even saying this to defend Twice or whatever, but I really don't see how New Jeans are popular internationally. I don't feel any hype around them. Le Sserafim gets way more hype from int fans than New Jeans. Imo their popularity is mostly in Korea.

NewJeans is still a one year old group but have had such an onslaught of success so early on in their career.

Twice have been a formidable force in the girlgroup scene for 8 years, maintained relevancy and deserve all their flowers.

I guess only time will tell.

Twice never focused on the international market during their debut and barely focus now so your point is moot.

New jeans may have more hype but if they can sustain it for a few more years then you can put them on the level of twice who have been top tier international since 2015.

No. NewJeans currently are not more popular than TWICE. They could be in a couple of years but that highly depends on how JYPE handles TWICE's upcoming album. If it's anything like RTB then NJ will def surpass them.

Note that I am speaking about global reach, not South Korea.

When it comes to dedicated fandom:

Twice >>>>> NJ.

Kpop fandom multis appreciation:

Twice>> NJ

Reach beyond Kpop fandom sphere internationally:

NJ >>> Twice.

It's very hard to compare with Twice's debut days as Kpop was still far less big all over the world.

All Kpop fans knew Twice, but there were less Kpop fans and the reach beyond Kpop fandom sphere was very slow and usually involved someone turning into a Kpop fan.

A Kpop group doing something with a game like League of Legends was unheard of not that long ago. Now you have male gamers (not traditionally the most likely to be listening to Kpop) listening to their music, as well as lots of other casual listeners.

I would say that for Kpop, a dedicated fandom is still more important than casual listeners, who barely know who you are and might not do more than stream a song once in a while. A dedicated fandom goes to concerts, buys album and other merch. New Jeans has a very big reach though, so chances are that they will build this dedicated fandom at some point, with lots of casual fans helping spread their numbers/name recognition.

Finally, I also think Twice still has potential to grow, which is amazing when they're that far into their Kpop career. Often a group would have already been disbanded or become more like a legacy group: just releasing things once in a long while, but Twice is still ambitious and growing stronger.

Both groups still have huge potential.

I do think New Jeans is most likely to get a Cupid level song at some point. They're also helped by having a higher level of English within the group than Twice.

• One:NewJeans is redefining the genre with their quirky and candid approach in an industry that is chasing perfection, involving out-of-focus shots that would never be seen in a typical K-pop music video and choreography facing away from the camera to create a unique concept that fans can relate to.
  
  
• Two:They have solidly established themselves as a group, style, and concept. Everything from their group image and discography to brand promotions carefully curates this natural-looking image that is often relatable.

• Three:Apart from a catchy discography, NewJeans is also aesthetically what everyone is into right now. It’s almost like someone took a bunch of trendy Pinterest boards and utilized them as inspiration for a K-pop group.
  
  
• Four:Even if they aren't foreigners, having at least one member who is fluent in English is nearly crucial for any aspiring K-pop act to increase their possibilities of appealing to a western audience, especially in the 4th generation of K-pop.
  

Taking everything in account, I'd have to say internationally Newjeans is making themselves quite well known.

They chart on billboard the highest.

They're the only group who really chart on spotify global top 50 (even their b-sides chart) other than bts and blackpink

Their album sales are also higher and they are more searched on google
