is there any pop artists that consistently releases disjointed, experimental songs like sm artists do? thats what i meant by westernized music. western pop is much more linear while this linear stuff in kpop only started being a big thing with hybe. How is sticker any westernized for example. At max the konglish lyrics.

A big reason why I'm into aespa is because of the way they shamelessly go for very experimental songs. Even if their last album wasn't really special outside of a few songs, the dance break in Girls is something I know no other active KPOP group would be willing to dare try, much less pull it off. It also makes them stand out in a genre where most groups go for more easy-going, easy to listen to dance-pop. Unless they ditch that for some EXTREMELY good pop music they're gonna end up losing alot of my interest so I really hope they don't ditch it. I'm with you on this.

I think Aespa's awesome and their version of NL is IMO way better. Just feel like you're setting yourself up by claiming a Western remake as one of the best examples of non-Western Kpop.
And I know they added the switch-up and some instruments, but it's generally like 75% the same song.

SM groups music appeal to me is how they make something so crazy and apparently disjointed sound so appealing and unique.

Tempo
Rookie
Ring Ding Dong
Red Light
Limitless
Hybe stans might love that but it will make extremely boring if all songs released start playing safe like the songs Hybe artists release
Tempo, Limitless, and Next Level were good. For the rest...meh.
Their bridges for Savage and NL are amazing. Simply amazing. I have mixed feelings about Savage but that bridge is actually prettier than Next Level's and i consider Next Level's bridge to be one of the best bridges in all of modern music. I have to relisten to Girls.
Girls is their best song. Loved it! Don't like Savage though.

the optimist in me thinks that even if SM becomes less ""experimental"", there should be still interest for experimental Kpop and all it will take is the right company to seize that gap in the market and start bringing in the big $$$
If no demand picks up, then the sound truly dies out then we're left in an even more awkward position

Girl is a huge step down for me. But I don’t want them to become a basic pop gg let it to Nj, IVE or whatever. Their experimental sound is basically what them relevant.
