is a shift happening or is it just a fluke?
is "experimental" music for girl groups on the way out?

Too early for me to be sure.

is there smth in particular that you think will sway your opinion in either direction?

I think it is tbh. aespa changed up their sound this comeback, gidle tomboy is not experimental, love dive is doing great and isn't experimental.
While they are different from the regular sounds, they aren't kpop experimental if you get what I'm saying lol. I think the retro/2000s/rock-emo style music is coming back in rn along with the y2k style.
-
I don’t know but I’m happy let’s just make simple music
-
ok ok so this year will be the deciding factor on where gg music will be headed. interesting!

Yep! Pretty much! By the end of this year, I'll have a very good prediction on if girl group experimental music is here to stay or not for the year 2022.

i can see this happening. y2k is still huge currently, it seems like it's influencing more and more groups. so a more 2000s pop sound revival for kpop doesn't seem too far off

def. love dive gave me 2000s pop vibes, and tomboy had an Avril feel at least with the styling and the lyrics. So I'm looking forward to what's next.

O.O was a wakeup call for the entire industry
-
most groups can't really pull it off well....i really like aespa's experimental tracks but songs like O.O are just not good.
right now i wouldn't say a specific sound is "trendy" rn cause you have very different sounding songs topping charts & doing well.
and don't you worry once BP come back & break records everyone will be going back to girl crush
-
racially motivated
Especially when barely any kpop groups are doing these genres. Most kpop songs are pop.

lol no.
I just grew up in the best era of rap/hip hop/RnB ever known.
It's called the 80s.
The trash you kids are forced to listen to these days is a travesty.

Depends on what you consider experimental.
I've seen people consider Eleven as "experimental" for its tempo changes, and other people say it's a "normal" sounding song.
Also, there is nothing that one would consider "experimental" about Black Mamba for example. It's a typical EDM kpop song. It's not like aespa only make "experimental" music and suddenly stopped it with Girls.
And the only thing "experimental" about their b-sides is that they are hyper-pop/laced with hyper-pop influences which is still a territory that hasn't been explored too much in the kpop genre (thus being experimental for kpop).

I hope not. If I want to listen to something normal I can just listen to western music.
-
I think experimental means failed songs.
