portuguese is my mother language. Would never consider myself latin in anyway.I identify myself as macaronesian.
Italians consider themselves Latin... but that's understandable since that is where it originated.

What about spaniards and portugueses?

Rome is physically located in Italy. Can't speak for how Spaniards and Portuguese feel.

the question is if they identify themselves as latin or latin european and they don't
i know it's quora but i was lazy to search for for other sources
alex is romanian, alex is french, they'll tell you the same. sadly i don't remember who is portugese, italian and spanish, otherwise i would have tagged them.
"Italians are strongly Italian and strongly European…it is one entity, one concept while at the same time being different. The exact opposite would be in the US where there are a plethora of Identity labels; ethic, gender, orientation. Not the case in Italy or in Europe for that matter."
"This question doesn’t make sense. We are Europeans, period. Latin is a dead language we used to speak whilst our ancestors, the Romans, were conquering and ruling all over Europe. Our language has its roots in the latin languages, but it has many other peculiarities related with other languages and influences."

Latin as in historical ethnicity yes, but of course they are Italians first. Europeans as a whole are way more nationalistic - which I attribute to their societies NOT being melting pots like over in the "new world".

exactly. my country has minorities and they are all white: hungarians, slovaks, croatians, vlachs... even if they are 3rd, 4th or whatever generation they will always be those nationalities. they identify as such and we identify them as such, even tho they have citizenship. there's no hungaro-serbian, which would be american version, they are just hungarian
we derailed the thread lol
to get back at the topic: nobody here identifies as latin anything. when you say latin you mean the language
I think this might be one of those American concepts that hardly anybody in Europe really "gets".
Here in Europe Latin is a language not an ethnicity or identity. And the language Latin was spoken in the Roman Empire, not the Latin Empire. I don't know. I've never even heard the term Latin Europe before. I feel very confused right now.
I'm Romanian and no, I don't identify myself as "Latin", at least not in the way US people think about it.
I identify as Romanian and maybe, just maybe, with Roman ancestry, as it's in our history.
However, no, just having a Latin-based language doesn't make me identify as anything else than Romanian.
I don't think Latin or Latin European is a thing here, to be honest.
