Has reduced music quality ever led to any popular group's downfall?

Red velvet maybe? I think releasing back to back experimental or poorly received music instead of sticking to their strengths affected them a lot.

What happened in 2013 stays in 2013!

Tho I'm in the minority who prefers Do You Love Me than Falling in Love.

Were they flopping?

I would say 2NE1 in 2013 is underwhelming on charts but not flopping (flopping basing on their track record, yes).

I actually think RV popularity is going up. Especially with this comeback. I think people were only disappointed with queendom because it was generic (??) for RV.
In 2019 after zimzalabim and umpah umpah they had Psycho which was huge hit.

-
But I don't think it affected their popularity much?

2013 was tragic for their music ngl

Were they flopping?
by their 2011-2012 standards? definitely
in 2010 they had 1 song in the top5 gaon yearly chart and another within top15
in 2011 they had 2 songs in top 10 (one was in top 5 and a 3rd song in top10 if you count Bom's solo)
in 2012 they had 1 song in top 10
keep in mind that competition was fierce in these years with songs like Gangnam Style, Roly poly, Alone, Fantastic Baby, Cherry Blossom Ending, BGGG, OH!, 2 Different Tears etc
and in 2013 their highest charting single was somewhere in the low 90s and the other was out of top100

they made the top30 in 2014 but it wasn't the same

But I don't think it affected their popularity much?
Definitely not.

Tho I found other people with the same sentiments in every SNS. Boils down to preference.

Teen Top? They were doing good for awhile but then they kept releasing songs people hated and completely fell off the radar. Their music got better again but at that point they had lost all their popularity

2011 - 2012 really was really a fking warzone

Any. Gp or/and fandom. There are groups that become stagnant or even reduce sales

2012 deadass had like 15 national hits in the top.....15

2013 wasn’t the best year for many music Groups 😅

please Lovey Dovey was such a survivor

Any. Gp or/and fandom. There are groups that become stagnant or even reduce sales
sure but actual groups that we would all consider popular dont really lose sales based solely on poor songs
-
2012 was a big year for sistar
That's why they won MAMA best female group that year

And they won again in 2014. It's like every year if they choose to have 2 comebacks they will win (Alone/Loving U in 2012, Touch My Body/I Swear in 2014)
All the other GGs better be glad and thankful that Sistar decided to give them some chance and only had 1 comeback in the other years

I don't know If "reduced music quality" is the exactly description for this event, but I get what you meant.
Music is sujective, but when you used to have a certain loyal public and interest, then suddenly people aren't clicking with your music anymore, I think something isn't going through the right path, even If It doesn't mean what you are releasing is objectively bad.
I think an undefined identity for a group or repetitive formula can lead people to lose interest or don't start to have interest, regarless It's fandom or gp.
It seems to be such a challenge to find the right balance. How to be versatile and still have personality.

They always comeback during summer. Only in 2012 and 2014 they had 2 comebacks
Alone was earlier in the year 2012, they comeback during summer with Loving U and that song cemented them as the summer queens.
Touch My Body 2014 was also during summer, but they decided to have another comeback in the later part of summer with I Swear.
Other than their 1 comeback a year, they had other song releases like Hyolyn and Soyou solos/collabs. Sistar19 as well.
Like in 2014, the biggest song of the year was also by Sistar. This song was without a doubt hands down the biggest song in 2014, Soyou's duet which was released start of 2014

Bora was also more active in variety and Dasom had her acting gigs as well.

Imagine even by releasing 1 song a year, every song they released managed to hit No.1 on Gaon. That's why people call them the digital queens

Hello Venus after Yooara and Yoonjo left. Mysterious was their best song with final lineup imo
-
-
Although I think it was just that Ladida was very different from their usual sound and when they returned to it people lost interest.
Even tho people praise the song it destroyed their momentum.
-
-
Super Junior - their music has been in decline for a while imo and it's one of the reasons I unstanned them.
Their music has deteriorated and I think that led to an overrall downfall in their popularity, well amongst international fans at least.
