[theqoo] CAFE WHO GOT INTO CONTROVERSY OVER BIRTHDAY EVENT RELEASES APOLOGY

    bypannchoaMarch 14, 2022

T/N: From the QRTs it seems like they have also refused ATEEZ, it's the same cafe who refused the Rocket Punch member in our earlier post

    "Sorry for hurting you"

    Hello this is Yellow Birthday.

First of all, sorry for offending anyone through by not being able to cover the artists' event.
[The cafe] hasn't been opened for a long time and have experienced handling events only a few times, hence, we are still in the process of establishing business rules for the cafe's operation.
We apologize once again for making anyone uncomfortable through the rules and details that we made.

Since we make a living by running our business, of course we need to set a standard for our sales target. We apologize to the fans for hurting them through this. I was too greedy and short sighted. Sorry.

Our usual daily visitor count of 20 is based off our sales on the weekend. In the case where events are predicted to sell less than our usual operations, we will prevent them from happening.

The bottle standard was set because a large amount of beverage bottles were left after one event, they could not be reused and had to be disposed of. After this incident, we only accepted takeout drinks and events would not allow any beverage bottle to be given out. Right now, our standard is set to 50 visitors per day. Moreover, This was because the store had a set production unit limit for each drink.

We apologize once again to the fans who've been hurt. We will work hard to set the right system moving forward. Sorry.

    1. Isn't this obvious? Depending on the level of the idol, the sales will be different.
I don't understand the kids swearing at the business owner
It's not like they said they'd accept and then cancel.
Do you know how hard it is to make a living nowadays?
    > Ok ok but then it can't be helped that people will talk about it either... Since they discriminated ^^

    2. Do they think that other cafes have it easy so they're accepting everyone?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ They probably find idols fans laughable so they treat them while being half as*ㅋㅋㅋ Don't you guys hate it if you walk into a luxury store and they treat you half as* because they think you won't buy anything?ㅋㅋㅋ Do idol fans deserve to be ignored?

    3. They don't even have anything planned so they're refusing, but they're refusing because "they're planning" to accept someone else? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ They only have 20 visitors a day as a standard yet they're worried about not selling because of an idol so they refused? And they think it wouldn't hurt anyone? So should idol fans only fangirl on A-list idols for these businesses?ㅋㅋㅋ It's freaking dumbfounding. Can't they just ask the fans to cover? For example 100,000won if it's below 20 people, and more if it's less than 10 people

    4. I saw the tweets and this is even more severe. I'm not even a fan but they're really being so obvious

"Cafe Yellow Birthday even has a priority birthday list for 2022 already"
    Picture tweet:
    We receive 2022 rental inquiry!

    Dates you can book:
    01.29~02.01 - NCT Doyoung

    March priority booking:
    BTS Suga
    03.11~03.13 - TXT Bumgyu

    April priority booking:
    Seventeen Mingyu
    The Boyz Sunwoo
    NCT Jeno
    The Boyz New

    5. I f*cking pity the cafe's owner

    6. I can relate to their reasoning, but they have to take the blame if potential clientele decide to talk about it when they're blatantly discriminating like that

    7. Why are people comparing this to taxi drivers refusing to take a passenger?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Taxi drivers refusing is actually illegal

    8. I can understand, but it still makes you feel disgusting

    9. I hope every idol fans knows about this, so that they will never book here even though my bias is a A-list idolㅋㅋ

    10. So the nugu idols will not be able to fill even 20 people..? That owner is quite funny. It's not like A-list idols are asking their cafe to host birthday events, why do they "plan" to host it for them by saving the dates....? Their main target is idol fans, but they sure do business weirdly

enter-talk] THE HUMILIATION OF STANNING A FLOP GROUP

OP: Hello! I'm here to drop an inquiry regarding a cafe event! Can I book it for 2 days between 2022 March 12th to 13th?

Cafe: Yes hello! The space rental for that date is possible. Who is the artist you would like to hold this even for?

    OP: Rocket Punch's Suyun!

Cafe: Ah I'm sorryㅠㅠ we're planning this date for another artistㅠㅠ

They need a lot of fans to visit them so they can sell a lot of drinks and dessert, they're able to estimate roughly just by hearing the name of the idol. If they estimate that they'll lose more than usual when their commoner clientele comes to their cafe, they will definitely say no

    2. [+263, -4]
Yah no matter how you see it, the fact that they're saying 'it's possible' then they inquire about the idol group and name and straight up just refuse it, I'd be annoyed tooㅋㅋㅋ And the worst part is the usual amount of people visiting that place is about 20 daily. The issue is that the way they're turning down fans is because they think fangirls are an easy money grab for them

    3. [+208, -11]
It's kinda sad but this can't be helped. A cafe is renting the land and need to make business at the end of the day too ㅠ If you're not willing to pay more and cover for the cost of the cafe's loss, from the cafe's POV, it just doesn't make sense for them to accept

    4. [+109, -2]
I thought but isn't there the possibility that someone came in between and reserved the place too?? But then I read the owner say "We're PLANNING this dateㅜㅜ" which makes me want to swear. The issue isn't that 2 people booked at the same time, they were actually expecting another more popular idol's fan to reserve this date for their birthday so they rejected

    5. [+104, -59]
But releasing this on Twitter because you're mad and getting hate on the cafe only proves your idol is a humiliation no?

    6. [+90, -2]
I'm another group's fan and this upsets me... Why would stanning flop idols be a disgrace... This isn't something to mock either... My bias are working so hard and with time, they rose to the spot they deserved.. Just thinking about my bias potentially receiving this kind of treatment upsets me..

    7. [+71 ,-0]
How could they turn down OP within only 10 minutes?

"But why can't they realize that they could potentially get more revenue from flop idols than popular idols? The fans can easily go to any cafes near their neighborhood to find a birthday cafe for their [popular] oppas.
Meanwhile there will only be 1 place for a flop-dol in the entire nation and even the idol could come and visit the cafe"

  • I understand the logic, but the way they handled it was shady. Don't ask the name and THEN refuse the service.

The smart thing to do would be to have a request form people have to fill out. Direct people to that form, and then say, we'll get back to you if that date and time fits our schedule. :pepenomad:

  • I was just reading about this and while I understand the need for places to make money... I also think people have a right to call them out on it and let other know about the situation.

It was unprofessional, and I think they will learn from this scenario. Though, I can't see many fans of groups with smaller Korean fanbases going anywhere near this place now.

  • Question, the Cafe that will run the event, will they be unable to service their usual customers?

If so, they could have asked for a minimum down-payment.

From what I was reading, it seems like if they book/"rent" the space, then the space is limited to the fans.

I assume you have to put a down payment to rent out the space? At least that's how it works here. But, then depending on the down payment cost and how many hours the space is booked, they could still lose money. In order to make it an easier choice they would have to charge the person renting the space within the range of $250 -$500 or $500 - $1000 I'd estimate depending on the operating costs to run the cafe and receive a profit. If they are trying to mitigate any chances of a lose. That would be the cost if their 50 person limit was met and each person spent from $5 to $20 dollars.

Edited once, last by keyboardwarrior7 ().

  • interesting

it's obviously up to the owners/managers to dictate who they will and won't do business with but hearing

"oh I want to do a cafe event for x idol" then being told no...is ouch lol

  • i think it is the way the cafe owner handled the issue. Next time, just say 'We'll check and get back to you' before telling it is available and do not immediately turn down after hearing the name of nugu idols

  • I understand both perspectives. That must have hurt for the fan though. The cafe should work out a better protocol in case of this type of thing.

And one of the commenters is right in that a nugu idol can bring in more business compared to a popular idol who has a business on every corner holding an event for them. Idols also usually visit these events and a nugu idol will likely drop in to all the events since there are fewer locations.

  • Its their business and if they think won't make money they wont do it, the only issue is how they answered requests since their system is made to step on others toes. Ateez's dismissal is interesting.... after Kingdom Ateez has grown decently in Korea and they seem to have a industry push/attention around them but then TXT and The boyz are more popular in korea and the members as well

It was unprofessional, and I think they will learn from this scenario. Though, I can't see many fans of groups with smaller Korean fanbases going anywhere near this place now.

Lol I highly doubt they care since they dont see those acts - read their fans - as worthwhile customers anyway

But, the thing is, they are saying they only get about 20 people a day? How profitable is that?

I guess if their overhead cost is low. But if you are a small business, one thing you don't need is to alienate possible clients.

  • if you as a restaurant owner can't burn through supplies at a rate you had planned, then you lose that much money worth of supply.

If the fans can't meet the level of demand that the normal traffic of normal customers, then the shop loses

but on the flip side if the cafe burns through supply too quickly to support the event, then the fans would have a bad time and then would spread the word. The shop loses.

Long story short, a fanbase is too much of a wild variable, and unless there's a guarantee, internally or externally, that the restaurant would come out the other side alright, the cafe could be shuttered.

There's also the issue of fan behaviour, the front house staff (waitresses etc) might not be prepared for anything like crowd control etc.

Even preparing a work reservation ( 20 ish guys in suits dining out) was a fucking pain in the ass ( I say this from exp) because normally we'd be working on 6-10 orders at onace and then BOOM 30-40 dishes crash into your queue. Some of my coworkers worth through burn injuries to get it done because ya can't stop! the customers are waiting. mind you I used to work a 100-ish table restaurant as a pantry cook in a shopping plaza, lunch and dinner rushes are hell but when you get slapped all at once with even a party of 10, you'd be going back hardly in one piece, average burn count of 3, all your core muscles aching and probably hating life after that. Granted I worked at a full on restaurant but even a cafe would be a nightmare.

(no wonder my prev boss looked like he was constantly on a shoestring...)

Edit: I think they'd be more ok with a more nugu idol or a smaller reservation or anything like that.
