Survival show - it's better to be eliminated than to debut?

  • Imagine you are in survival show, group will have 12 members and you ranked 13th

or group will have 7 members but you were 8th

    is it good or bad?

  • 1. Kim Yoo-yeon - It would have been best for her to debut with the help of public voting. There's likely no way she gets picked up by an agency otherwise. Her age and lack of any talent and skill work against her.

    4. Chowon - From a financial standpoint, it depends on how much she received from the rigging settlement. From a career standpoint, it would definitely have been beneficial for her to have debuted with IZone. She could have built a much larger fanbase than she has now.

  • Some shows have groups with people from the ranks behind the winners (lets say Rank 1-5 debut and than later on a group debuts somewhere else with members from rank 6, 8, 11, 14) and those are often even fan-wishes. This is what for example happend with JBJ after Produce 101 season 2. I also noticed that Japan is doing the same since in Produce 101 Japan season 1 Orbit debuted as a fan-group and in season 2 they did the same with OCTPATH.

Sometimes even more artists debut together since companies will see the participants and than decide to debut them. DRIPPIN for example is a group where besides Alex everyone else apeared on Produce X. I also noticed that in Japan a lot companies later on took people who participated in Produce and debut them together as for example BOOM TRIGGER, BUGVEL, HICO, BXW, OWV,... are all groups who have members that apeared in Produce 101 Japan before. Also other companies seem to do the same thing or similiar. In another Japanese survival show for example the CEO of an agency decided to take the 3 dudes who were ranked behind the dudes from the winner group and debuted 2 as vocalists and 1 as rapper seperatly.

  • Talking abt it in general, i think that's a yes, depends on the company, if ur company is smart, they'll use ur popularity and debut u in a new Girl Group where u can stay active for more than just 2 years.

Then also some of produce group members fail after they r done with the group which is sad. and some join great companies so its a win-win

  • Nah, always debut if you can. Groups that comes from survival shows are most of the time more popular and you can build your fanbase faster. Career wise it's better. Even Chowon is arguably less popular than any izone member, and miles away from the most popular members (Wonyoung, Sakura...). If you start considering smaller survival shows, debuting or not, you pretty much begin from scratch so it doesn't matter if you debut or not.

  • I think it would be smarter to debut in a survival group. Especially the big ones like the Produce series. It only lasts for 2 years and you are set up for life financially. After, you can debut in a permanent group, but with an extremely solid fanbase.

Very true. Eunbi has the worst debut so far of Izone members but she sold almost 60k on Gaon. That's more than most GGs. If she can maintain this fanbase, she will be able to work work as long as she wants as an idol.
