Stanning already established groups

  • Is it me or stanning a group that has been promoting for a few years already is impossible? Like, yeah, I discover them, I like their music and listen to it, but seeing how they already have more than five music videos and countless events/apparitions makes it very hard for me to even want to learn their names/faces.

I feel like if I were to join the Twice fandom right now I wouldn't get all the inside jokes and trivia that someone who has been there since their debut would and I would be pretty lost.

Whenever I stan a new group they have to be rookies or freshly debuted so I can be there since the beginning and watch them grow and achieve stuff. Does that make any sense?

What about you guys, do you find hard to stan and get into well established groups?

  • I got in to Kpop around 2017 but I watched so many SNSD videos, so it's never to late :happyr:

  • Lol isn’t it easier. There’s a lot of content to immediately get into.

I suppose, but sometimes the large amount of content is what puts me off and overwhelms me. I don't even know where to start most of the time so it is just easier to follow a group as they develop their career instead of trying to catch up with the missing years.

  • You don't need to feel pressured to know a lot so soon, op. It's not that important. You can start focusing on the new content and then leaŕning slowly about the old ones when you see it's needed.

But I get your point, I understand it's very personal and everyone has your own way to stan. If you love to have the experience to follow every step of a group's career, its okay too

  • i stanned shinee after they had already been a group for almost 12 years, so...

it's easy if you go bit by bit through their music and content and there is a welcoming fandom willing to help you. if there's a lot of fanmade content to watch and enjoy then it's more immediately rewarding and seems less like work to have to learn so much about a group.

  • I find it hard at first for instance with me not liking GIdle at debut, but I was lucky to have some senior fans of their's help me understand things and give me some stages that fans consider classic, to look at :) I think it only becomes truly impossible if people gatekeep.

  • When I first got into kpop, I was interested in an established group. I found out a lot about the group through fan blogs, videos, and artist threads. I appreciated the info I got-which is much more informative and organized than stan tweets (though I know their utility: social media metrics). This is why I created and update Yoshi's threads. It's for the fans who come in later to be able catch up more easily. Not just just useful for Yoshi fans, but Treasure fans in general because I include group activities.

  • In your case I guess the established group would have to be extra special, to the extent you feel you would have no choice but to invest.

I never thought about watching them achieve stuff, I just liked what they put out so I got stuck right in! They did of course become bigger but it was never a part of my decision to become a dedicated fan, I couldn't have predicted they would be where they ended up.

  • no, it is easy for me. If I decide to stan a group the only thing I do I have to listen to their whole discography. That is very easy coz I just go to the Spotify page, listen to their discography album by album while studying. Any song that I really like I will add it to a playlist created for that group.

varieties, performances, and others I watch them if I want to
