Out of curiosity, how do you feel about Hyuna? Her being high-pitch is less about being cute and more about having a style like GD you mentioned

I enjoy some cutesy rap though, I think the main problem with kpop rap isn't the pitch but just that they're not good in a lot of cases (usually rap because they can't sing but that's become less common these days in my opinion)

Who are some examples of GG rappers you enjoy?~

it really depends for me.. if the flow is great and addictive I dont mind it...

for me, its hard to stand voices like izone's hitomi though, it too thin and high.. I feel like my ears will bleed.. no hate to her she is a cutie and a good dancer but I cant stand her voice at all..

On the other hand, I really enjoy a lot of hyuna's song though.. so it really just depends on the song and the said section of the song..

one hit or miss case would be itzy's yuna, I absolutely love her prechorus part in not shy, but her ring ding ding in Mafia is unbearable to me

I really generally can’t vibe personally much with anything too cutesy, rap or not. Veeeeeerrry occasionally, I find exceptions. Like, I found myself weirdly loving ASAP, even though it’s totally cutesy and in spite of the fact that when I first heard it, I thought it was cringey.

I definitely find a large proportion of raps in Kpop girl groups to be placed in unnecessarily, like someone just randomly decided that you can’t have a title song without a rap, and when they’re delivered in a clunky fashion it really is a ‘Whyyyyy’ moment for me. You could probably say the same thing for a lot of the boy groups too though.

I think generally though, you seem to dislike *badly-executed* high pitched notes/squeaky/nasal tones in music. And that’s fine! Different strokes an’ all that.

Maybe it's just a preference for female vs male voices for the style? Similarly, the majority of rock I listen to (including all subgenres: metal, punk, etc.) is male but the majority of western pop and hip-hop/rap I listen to is female. I do have some favorites of the other gender for both though and am open to them, I just naturally gravitate towards one for said style

It depends on the song tho, sometime it fits well

I am very similar actually - a lot of the time it is because it seems like a really affected style. I prefer resonance and depth generally. I think a lot of it is about the execution though.

I disagree I only dislike it when they're singing. I don't love it though. I don't mind it but when any idol is a nasally singer its kinda weird to listen to. Like i'm listening to them sing out of their nose

I absolutely have a strong dislike towards Squeaky, Cutesy, Cringey, Nasally rapping which is way more prominent in GGs than BGs.

It's so irritating to me.

And by this, I don't mean any hate towards high pitched rappers for example :- I like GD and Hoony's rapping. They inject lot of personality and uniqueness in their rap, it's distinctive, clear and has intention, while I don't feel the same in case of GGs. This may sound like generalization but in past 7 days, I spent lot of time listening to GG songs and I was ticked off (meaning here :- "Taken out of the song listening experience") by that....

Agreed. Soyeon's an exception because she's so damn good. I also enjoy jennie/lisa and giselle/karina for their comparably lower tone rapping. But that's pretty much the only female rappers I rlly like.

I feel like this is a very good example at points. They still ATE with their flow tho, so it didn't bother me. But I can definitely see how others wouldn't enjoy it.

Agree. Gg as a whole was a miss for me for a long time. I’m just not for the cutesy styles. Soyeon was the first rapper I ever liked.

I mostly like Soyeon and Moonbyul. I love MB’s tone.
