Excellent chemistry, energy, all the members seems to enjoy themselves !

Special bravo for Dayeon who made a superb job as a leader, choreographer and performer.

    What a performance...

My only tiny silly issue with this is the apparently wildly overlook fact that most if not all of theses girls are minors and that they're singing a very sexual song in front of a bunch of smiling adults.

"and I'm good with the cream if you know what I mean"

    Yes sweetie, we do.

I don't think you do though.

Changed the title of the thread from “Cuties loving the cream” to “Our lovely pedo society: cuties loving the cream”.
  • They’re teenagers. I reckon they know what it means…

And because they’re teenagers, they probably think they are a lot more grown- up than they actually are which means they probably wouldn’t question whether or not it is appropriate.

I’m glad they didn’t have to go provocative choreo, but there is a definite edge of creeeep about it.

The girls are not at fault and they have the right to talk about their sexuality if they want to) BUT I really don't think they all get the true meaning behing "double dipping", "treat", "good with the cream" etc, they're koreans, japaneses and chineses teenagers. What are the odd that they will know sexual metaphors in english ?

and more importantly the song was chosen by adults for them, it's not a moment of empowerment clearly. I wished they changed the lyrics when they realized that the girls performing were all that young.

  • people are making a big deal out of some innuendo lyrics. there were underage idols who were given more revealing outfits and not a peep about that because they are considered 'legendary' groups or from the big 3. meanwhile we live in the WAP era and a bunch of pre-tween girls know what that means

    some innuendo lyrics ?

The whole song is about sex.

It's plain sex metaphors from start to end, and no I don't think all of these girls understand what they're singing, you think a 15 japanese knows what double dipping means ?? I'm 20, french, sexually active for a few years and I still had to google it to get the image as english is not my first language. If it was the case for them, I wouldn't be that disturbed. I would still deplore the extreme banalisation of sex and female bodies though, not everyone is happy of this WAP era as you say.

Revealing clothing means a lot and nothing: wearing shorts and tank tops is normal in summer for a young girl, doing it on stage in winter in front of a bunch of people older than you is definetly creepier.

I don't get why you're trying to excuse current problems by saying that some stuff were bad as well in the past.

The industry and our society was creepy then and is creepy now, are we supposed to just pretend that everything is okay ?

  • The girls are not at fault and they have the right to talk about their sexuality if they want to) BUT I really don't think they all get the true meaning behing "double dipping", "treat", "good with the cream" etc, they're koreans, japaneses and chineses teenagers. Sorry, I wasn’t trying to say they were at fault - my point was meant to be that teenagers will think certain things are ok because they feel more grown-up than they are - therefore it really should be the people in charge of them and these performances who shield them and err on the side of caution, but I was not clear enough about that.

No, they probably don’t get all the innuendos, but there was enough publicity about this when it was released, that I reckon unless they were living under a rock, they would probably get the jist.

Anyway, yes. Not the wisest choice to put it lightly.

I just looked up double dipping....ew, do you really think the lyrics are insinuating this particular act??? I think you're letting your imagination run away with you lol. I think this song teases sexual innuendo but i highly doubt you're supposed to be getting porn style images from it.

  • Wow the amount of people that genuinely think teenagers are innocent are baffling LMAO. Considering that this was even an issue way way before. Literally Somi is an english speaking teenager when she performed bang bang.

    Seriously, get a GRIP.

You just said it: "english speaking teenager".

Out of these 9 girls, only one is.

Again, as i said, what are the odd a 15 yo understand sexual metaphors in another language ?

It's not about them being pure and naive little balls of sunshine, it annoys me as well to see people trying to make people under 18 magically free of libido and curiosity, it's the fact that adults gave them a very sexual song without them likely understanding it fully !

Cum, annulingus, cunnilingus, sodomie, hand jobs.

Do I care if they do anything related to the keywords just below ? No. I did too when I was their age, but that's not the point.

It's about legal children singing about it when it's clear they don't get the lyrics to their full extent for the enjoyement of adults.

    oh my.

    That's what I thought.

    You're so innocent !

That's exactly why I was concerned, double dipping means what it means. It's hardly an innuendo !

If you're not convinced by this one "I'm good with the cream" is even clearer, cream is an obvious slang for cum. As we're talking about licking ice cream cones from the start of the song, it's not hard to see where it's going.

we been knew, our society loves minors being sexy, male or female, I don't see where your point is going.

  • Man i danced to wiggle wiggle and didnt know shit about the song’s lyrics. I know enough to know when a song IS sexual.

Do u honestly, i mean honestly, think that teens, even without knowledge to a language, would believe that a song from pop stars are gonna be thought of as something as innocent as “just about an ice cream”. Koreans literally have Food Metaphors when it comes to sexual organs and innuendos 😭

Then tell me why Jun Somi was the brunt of the post in those complaints? They literally were dishing it out on staffs because SHE DANCED TO IT 💀

  • the difference is the lyrics aren't being showcased, it's the trainees themselves. so of course it would be 'morally' worse if they were shown with more revealing outfits and did obscene choreography

at a certain point you will find the entirety of life creepy because sex is a great motivator for what goes on. why are all these old men starting idol agencies with 99% chance of failing when there's MUCH better things they could invest their money on? because those other business ventures don't include being surrounded by a bunch of young pretty women. you have to know where to pick your battles. "dirty lyrics" concern is 80's mommy-knows-best tier shit. they tried it on rap music but what ended up happening? it became even more popular than ever. if you want to go all out with some ideal about perfect social decorum, you might be better off living in China

You did, huh? Well there’s mo evidence because that forum is, like, deleted LOL. But i highly doubt lmao. Even in reddit, there’s like, no buzz on it. All people can remember is “The Somi Bang Bang” :pepe-cringe:

Anyway, yes. Not the wisest choice to put it lightly.

oh no I understood what you meant in your first comment, I was simply reassuring my own position on teenagers talking about sex, I think we're on the same page.

The thing is my whole point is exactly what you said: the people in charge on them didn't protect them at all.

They should have change the lyrics or explained it clearly with the girls to see if they were okay with it.

The idea of a young girl singing about loving slurping cum without even knowing it seems pretty dangerous to me.

  • I thought a lot about it and my opinion is. Yes, it's in bad taste and I definitely wouldn't put in the show. Especially because the girls don't have full control of what they are presenting.

But I think that there's a slight misrepresentation on the topic. These girls are what? 16 up? They're are teenagers in 2021, they have access to a looot of information. I definitely don't think they're out there not knowing what the Ice Cream song is about. I'm sure they have seen the BP Ice Cream video, read lyrics, translations, comments, talked with their friends everything about it.

I don't think it does teenagers or society any good to believe anyone under 18 doesn't have a sexuality or desires to express that. God knows I did when I was one. And the repression or chastising of that leads to many dangerous and unhealthy situations. There should always be opportunity for young people to discuss and express these things.

  • Man i danced to wiggle wiggle and didnt know shit about the song’s lyrics. I know enough to know when a song IS sexual.

You makes little to no sense.

You start to say you danced to a very sexual song without understand it, so you're proving my point about teens not grasping the whole meaning behind foreign lycrics.

Then, first, I do think they understand it's sexual, but not the true extent: we're talking about vaginal and anal penetration, annulingus, cunnilingus, cum play. Secondly, the problem is not them singing about sex, the problem is singing about sex without exactly understanding what you're saying on tv in front of hundreds of adults.

Laslty I don't get why you're so insistent about dragging somi to this post. Somi speaks english, she likely understand everything about this song and she danced to it knowing what she was doing, I' totzlly fine with that. But the performance of planet 999, as I explain numerous time, is a whole different situation.

  • I think we have to acknowledge that this has a long History on pop music.

Double entendre is a staple of pop music making going back to perhaps the 40s or earlier.

If you look for it you will find the examples.

As it come to this performance.

    Honestly I think it's fine.

The fact is that on a whole the entendre is there but really not at the forefront. Lyrics are often to some extent incidental or beside the point. They're there. But people often don't really focus on them. At least intellectually.

I mean look how many teens sing all kinds of songs that when you get to the details might be inappropriate if you take the double meanings, but most people aren't engaging with them that way.

Similarly here.. to everyone doing this and the people giving it I don't think the goal or presentation is about the song as a sexual act (even if the exact lyrics could be taken that way)

Most are just engaging with it as a fun pop song with fun sounding signing they can dance to.

    I mean prime example.

Ever look at the lyrics to TWICE Knock Knock.

It's basically a back and forth about trying to get a girl to give it up.

But it's still one of the most wholesome and sweet songs in their repertoire.

It doesn't function as a "sex" song in the end.

I think that can be the case here.

  • I thought a lot about it and my opinion is. Yes, it's in bad taste and I definitely wouldn't put in the show. Especially because the girls don't have full control of what they are presenting.

YES YES. My point but better worded. I was just so pissed off by the narrative! It’s in a bad taste, obviously, because I get why people can get uncomfortable by this. But this seeming assumption of “innocence until legally adult” is just weird and utopian. That’s not how it works at all. Korea’s sex education starts at Elementary FFS.

However, as someone who had experienced dancing to songs and following choreos that will be deemed “matured” by these K-pop fans when i was young, i have more tolerance. And to all out say it is Pedo? God damn, that just takes it to another level.

  • ...they're singing a very sexual song in front of a bunch of smiling adults.

True - this pedo garbage has destroyed Hollywood and Western music - I hate seeing it come to K-Pop.

Vulgarity does not equal maturity - just the opposite.

uhhh do you really think you're doing something by stating that the world is pervy and that sex is a great marketing tool ? Dear friend, thanks, I know.

A forum is a space for discussion, and humans tend to love echanging thoughts: you're not only being a coward, you're being lazy and antisocial as well.

And I'm pretty sure China isn't free of child prostitution.

But yeah haha the rest of the world isn't either

  • True - this pedo garbage has destroyed Hollywood and Western music - I hate seeing it come to K-Pop.

Vulgarity does not equal maturity - just the opposite.

I mean, kpop is this way since its creation, it's becoming worse and more apparent cause they're folllowing the processus of extremly apparent sexualisation of the west but it's been there all along since the beginning of the star industry.

  • You dont understand it AT ALL.

Firstly, i explained to you how anecdotally, that even young ones will understand what is sexual without knowing another language. There’s enough cues to it musically and visually,

Secondly, if they understand that it is sexual, then they will obviously know the MOST OBVIOUS HINT. It’s that you lick the ice cream. Literally, that’s all that you need to know to realize if it’s age-appropriate for you and then decide then and there.

Lastly, Somi’s Bang Bang is ALWAYS BROUGHT UP to the conversation of “pedo culture in mnet survival shows”. You’re saying that because she knows the lyrics, then that performance was Okay. But then, it’s not according to majority of complainers about the same topic all through-out, not just akp, but to reddit, twitter, pann-choa, etc.

The point was that, whether they fully understand (like somi) or not (like how u assume), it will NOT MATTER. People will literally cling to this topic, still.

  • I agree that the song is sexual in nature and that teens shouldn't be performing to it. The thing is though that this issue runs deep in virtually all cultures, and that is that pedophilia and the sexualization of girls is heavily normalized in dance, music, movies, and other forms of entertainment. I mean for example in the US girls in schools are told not to wear "revealing" clothes in elementary and middle school because they'd be distracting, but then there's beauty pageants where little girls are modeled after provocative adult performers and its seen as acceptable. The thing is that Korea like (most) countries isn't keen on pedophilia but there are these symptoms of it like I see in all cultures.

    exactly.

And even by teaching young girls to wear "proper" clothing we're not really protecting them but making them hyper-aware of their body and in charge of the way people view or might view it which is insane ! Girls shouldn't be careful at 13 or any other age about their attractiveness, it should really be the owner of the look. Education, no shame !

  • I thought a lot about it and my opinion is. Yes, it's in bad taste and I definitely wouldn't put in the show. Especially because the girls don't have full control of what they are presenting.

Yeah, I'm following you on everything (even if I still don't think these girls did a full deep dive in the song like oh yeah ok here it's about anal, and theres it's a cuni and yeah here we're licking cum, btw do you swallow ?) especially about the bigotry around children and teen's sexuality.

But do we want young humans discussing and expressing sex on tv for the entertainement of adults ?

Clearly the creators of the show should have never proposed the song for minors without at least changing the most blatantly sexual lyrics.

  • -peepo

Selected a post as the best answer.
  • Intellectually ?

Do you have to make any effort to understand what cream stand for ? The song obviously sexual, which I don't care about. What I care about is that the girls are not in control of what they're projecting. How adults gave the an english sexual song to japanese, korean and chinese minors and asked them to perform it on tv. That's gross imo and blatant dog whistling (but well kpop, music industry, the world huhn !)

Also Knock Knock and Ice Cream are not on the same level, yes you can read it as someone teasing the vulva/clitoris of a girl before vaginal penetration but it's not as in your face and it's wrapped with a nice cutesy sound and look contrary to Ice Cream.

Another iconic example, Banana allergy Monkey.

  • You said to someone he/she phrased your thoughts better, just read my answer to the indeed more eloquent comment.

    Thanks for your passion though.

  • You said to someone he/she phrased your thoughts better, just read my answer to the indeed more eloquent comment.

    Thanks for your passion though.

I read that, i’m fine and all about it but there’s one glaring point.

But do we want young humans discussing and expressing sex on tv for the entertainement of adults ?

So you’re basically fine when teens do know about sex and express their sexuality AS LONG AS it’s private? As long as there’s no adult around them for it to see? Sorry, but that doesn’t stand for me. Like you said, that’s already inhibition.

I actually do agree about being more transparent about clothing and how it is viewed and restricted. But this line coming from you doesn’t stand. Just because there are creepy adults doesn’t mean they have to “hide” themselves. Nevertheless, this obviously is a question that i am unrelating to GP999 and more on the general view of teenager’s sexuality.

Regarding the song of Ice Cream. I actually thought there was enough censorship in it for it to be 16+ for me. Like 18+ would definitely be, like, Something. Reminds me of those Nickelodeon shows with hidden adult jokes that you wont understand as a kid.

  • Yeah, I'm following you on everything (even if I still don't think these girls did a full deep dive in the song like oh yeah ok here it's about anal, and theres it's a cuni and yeah here we're licking cum, btw do you swallow ?) especially about the bigotry around children and teen's sexuality.

There's definitely a line between having a healthy discussion or presentations of sexuality in media and using that for profit. Unfortunately the latter is the most common in the entertainment business. As for the fact that no one in the production probably stopped to think about this song choice on the show.

  • thinking that korean or any non-english speaking teens must know the meaning of the lyrics is so american/english centric. let me tell you a secret: we don't. i can understand spoken language but i still need to look up the lyrics to see what exactly are artists saying. i don't understand it well so i don't even bother. kids, teens, and young adults don't care about lyrics, they care about the beat. if that wasn't the case they wouldn't be open to foreign music.

i think that issue here is that nobody involved in the program actually knew what the song is about. they know what ice cream means, it's a blackpink song (they are popular), they like the beat and it's in english. watch "koreans reacts on translation of english lyrics" videos and see how little they understand.

i wonder if the song would be performed if it was in korean and they knew exactly what is it about.

  • From the OP’s comments, I think they’re trying to say that they don’t care if teens want to express their sexuality as long as it’s something they are doing willingly and they’re fully aware of what they’re doing. These teens should be expressing themselves in a healthy,

non exploitive way solely for them and not for the sexual satisfaction and entertainment of others.

In this case, we have no idea if they’re doing it willingly and if they’re fully aware of the meaning behind the lyrics, we’ll probably never know unless they say it so themselves but the entertainment industry is one where exploiting underage kids is the norm.

Yea that’s why i tried to disassociate it to GP999 and isolate the point itself. Because the inherent exploitative nature of capitalism itself in entertainment will always be brought up. I expected an answer along the lines of ur second paragraph, that’s why i tried to isolate it,

  • No, I don't want childrens teens to feel ashamed of their curiosity, desire and experimentations, nor do I want them to hide it.

But I think there is a fine line between a teen discussing sex with someone of his/her age or with an adult and a teen singing about it on a platform used by thousand of unknown people. And it's not like the girls made the lyrics, they're not expressing themselves, their doubts, their questions, their awe, no ! They're singing about very explicit sexual acts that most of them probably never experimented, and not for their peers (it's not a school festival)but for adults, and worse, strangers. That's what bothers me.

  • I hummed a lot of explicit songs in my childhood even when I was en English speaker without knowing the lyrics kekeke.

Tbh I don’t think they’ll perform an explicit song in Korean. Often times for non native speaking people other language songs feel less explicit even if they are crude than their own language.

Like yeah I’ll swear in English but I won’t in my native tongue kekeke.

Anyway tbh explicit lyrics in non native languages feel trivial. It’s not about understanding or not understanding. It just doesn’t compute the same way.

growing up and acknowledging the fact that we all sang dirty lyrics in front of our parents :eyes:

i didn't even get the context and double entendres in my own language, and some of you think that i should be able to do it in a foreign language ^^

exactly, cursing in a foreign language has no weight, they are just random, foreign words. which is the reason why n-word controversies occasionally happen. foreigners don't get the issue because they don't know the cultural and historical weight of that word, to us, it's just a foreign word like any other. we don't mean any malice, we just don't know.

i don't think it will too. koreans blur knives in tv dramas, imagine them being okay with t(w)eens singing explicitly about sex ^^ you cannot complain about something if you don't know what it means.

  • Racial slurs are a different thing. I think everyone should be more cognizant of that. And it is not quite as excusable tbh.

But otherwise yeah. Blackpink themselves won’t release an ice cream in Korean lol.
