On a scale from 1 to 10, how good is your relationship with your parents?

With mom an 8.5 with dad a solid like 3? Could be worse could be a lot better

8/9 with mom and 4 with dad I guess.

9.5, I don't agree everything with her, but we never fight.

used to be 3 at some point though she used to have me on a leash and now she's the one on the leash so I rate it as high as an 8 . She isn't a person you can be honest with though, even if she tells you it's okay to tell her everything. Once I understood that, it got better.

My dad is dead but it was decent considering we didn't live together, I always thought he was a good person. Had some issues when he was drunk though but I didn't live with him so I didn't get to see him drunk that often

Probably a 6 with mom. Kinda traditional East Asian parent-child relationship. She was lax during my kid and teen years, but she is overcompensating during my adult years.

With dad was more of a 3. He was narcissist and at the same time military minded. The only saving grace is he didn't smoke or drink like most Korean daddies of his generation.

i don't know if it comes from the asian honorifics i am used to have towards my parents or about our culture but they feel like strangers sometimes

Sadly both my parents are gone. My mother passed away in 2010 and my father last year but my mother and I were very close. She was there at my daughter's birth and her death has affected me greatly. I will never get over losing her. My father and I not as close as he was always away working when I was growing up but he was a good provider and I loved him. I loved my parents very much. There's only my older sister and I left now and we don't get on.

no parents are perfect but they did a wonderful job raising me

I feel like it's too complicated to give them a number and leave it at that. My dad is physically/verbally affectionate and jokes around a lot but I can't connect emotionally with him or say he knows me that well. My mom lacks the qualities my dad has. I've helped her out one too many times when she needed to rant, but I can't say I've been given the same. She's still wonderful, I understand that her past trauma is the reason why she's unable to fully "be" a parent. Yes maybe it's no excuse, but before she became the label of my mom, she was a person who wasn't given enough love. Of course, I'd be angry and spiteful sometimes but what kind of person would I be if I were to hold a grudge forever. It's not really that they've ever been bad parents, we love each other a lot. It's just that with being immigrants, it was clear my life would go down a different path from theirs and as a result, create differences that can't be bridged between us.

8.5 but it's only gotten better recently. I still keep a lot of things to myself. I should probably thank the lockdown for being the reason for getting us closer.
