4th Gen Kpop is Very Lackluster

  • Honestly speaking a lot of 4th generation groups are pretty meh compared to the previous generations.


    We’re like 3 years in and it’s nowhere near as popping as 3rd gen was by this time.


    2015 for 3rd gen we had EXO who were monsters in the industry snatching daesangs left and right. Gfriend who were starting to find success and slowly blowing up in Korea. BTS who were also making waves in Korea (and internationally) and getting noticed by the general public. Red Velvet who scored a triple crown with ICC, and the monster rookie debut of Twice.


    However even now we have yet to have a 4th gen group win a daesang, chart decently in korea (with the exceptions of itzy and aespa), or slowly start to surpass their seniors.


    Now it may still be early and things can change quickly but with the way things are going, the only accomplishments 4th gen will have is maybe youtube views and album sales. :|

    It's not clear to me why we are in 4th gen for any other reason that isn't just an arbitrary. "Let's split it here to keep these groups in different heats."



    If we are shifting generations, I'd say we are more like at the tail end of 3rd. This current crop of groups perhaps will rise to be the harbringers of 4th. But I'm not entirely sure we are there yet.

    I see these groups as "4th gen" groups, in that I think they will be the main players in this next gen. But i don't think their actual 4th generation as a time period has quite come. They haven't pushed out the previous players yet.



    Or we are in some kind of overlapping period where the 4th gen groups are at their outset, but haven't actually ended the 3rd gen phase. Like they're both existing at once.
