Why are brits so upset about soccer?
-
-
Because it's called football for the civilised world.
-
American here who says soccer.
American culture is spreading around the world, and influencing the way people speak. Even though Americans aren't that great at soccer (sorry, football), we use our own unique word for it. Imagine if you were playing ping pong with a group of friends, and this really arrogant person who's not even that great at ping pong starts playing with you and starts calling the game something completely different even though the first name was perfectly fine. I can see why it's annoying.
But they're probably just trolling you. Brits aren't that sensitive.

Well... it is called "fótbólt" in Faroese, which also literally means "foot ball"
But I don't know why brits are mad about it.
And I know some Brits sometimes call American Football "handegg".

Isn't kinda the fault of the Brits that Americans say soccer instead of football?
