Do y'all actually like the netflix payola songs?

  • I think it's something very stupid people say when they can't form a coherent thought...

Like ?? I never watched the series, let alone listened their songs, but it's so viral even in Brazil like real viral that the success is kinda expected (?)..

But it's ironic how this success is called payola just bc it's something that it got big pretty lettuce organic compared to the lengths kpop stans go to make their faves successful.

  • The film has literally been number 1 globally on netflix for weeks and it has more watching hours with each week and it should be the other way around. But word of mouth is that strong. What payola? It couldn't have been more organic even if they tried.

And yes, i like all but soda pop,, my fave is your idol but i listen to them all.

  • "payola" lol you people I swear. the songs are doing well because they are good. The funny thing is everyone says the movie is propping them up but it's the other way around, the movie is only getting so much praise because of the soundtrack. Without the soundtrack, it'd have been a snoozefest.

It definitely wouldn't be a snooze fest because it's a good story and we're finally back to the basics. But music is the big factor why it's doing so well. Kpop fans made it viral, then word of mouth spread that film is good and then non kpop fans watched it too. I watched it after i heard golden and your idol. It's been numbers one for weeks on Netflix, and it's the most watched animated film on Netflix ever. Normies love it too.

  • Okay, I get it.. but it sounds like a Disney song to me (esp. french vers) that's my opinion.

Do we still have the right to have an opinion in 2025 🤷‍♀️

What exactly here sounds like Disney?

It was done by teddy, it could literally be sung by blackpink

  • I like Golden and seeing idols cover it is refreshing to see

Your Idol is very good and same with with takedown and how it's done.

Also, how is the soundrack payola? Both Netflix and Sony didn't think the franchise was going to be a hit which is why there's only limited amount of merchandise for it. Positive word of mouth and being on Netflix made people check it out and fall in love with the soundtrack. This is why word of mouth can be so powerful because people can form opinions on their own or check out content they most likely were going to skip. There's nothing payola about this film or soundtrack

  • I think it's nice.

It gets more people acquainted with Kpop and some of these will becomes fans of our favorite groups.

Yes and also, when enough people watch it, it comes to the Top 10 of watched movies in a certain country, which gives an enormous boost as more people wil check it out thn.

  • Have gotten sick of most of the songs now after many listens, but they were definitely good songs on release.

Not sure how the songs are "payola" lol its literally a fictional group. They are not even being recognised as a real kpop group in Korea or in the world whether is it contesting in music shows or eventually in award shows. There is no point in trying to get the song more streams or whatever other achievements

They are doing well simply because the songs are well received

I don't necessarily agree, maybe not a snooze fest, but issues with plot and pacing would be more apparent if not for the beautiful soundtrack and animation making up for it. In any case, it's my favorite release of 2025 so far and I watch a decent amount of movies so that's saying something.

But I agree the movie has blown up in a way that seems 100% organic to me, it's not netflix payola, the movie and music are just good.

  • I don’t think it’s payola. While things like PR and platforms like Netflix definitely help songs go viral, the vast majority of people genuinely like these songs. The reason why some people find them so off-putting and overrated is precisely because they became viral and honestly, I’m also on the side that’s surprised by how viral they got, because I personally couldn’t love the songs as much as the general public does. For example, I can understand why songs like “Cupid” or “Apt” went viral, but I don’t feel the same about something like Golden. But I’m aware that’s purely subjective. There’s actually plenty of data showing these songs’ popularity is organic. PR and Netflix were definitely important factors in making them go viral compared to other kpop songs, but like I said, people are genuinely listening to them.

it's not payola, but it's definitely benefiting from the Netflix association. In an alternate world where these songs are released without Netflix and KPDH, the songs wouldn't have garnered much, if any, attention at all...certainly not BB100 and topping global spotify.

I agree, Netflix and PR making a kpop song go viral is quite an unusual situation, but it’s also a reality in the case of these songs. Still, as I said, that doesn’t mean these songs are payola it just means that their viral success is somewhat different from how typical kpop songs go viral.

  • If you define a record label paying radio stations or streaming services to play a song or place it on a certain playlist at a particular position as ‘payola,’ then yes, payola exists. But that also means every record label and pretty much every single big pop artist uses it. Most lead or ‘big’ singles have something called a radio deal, which essentially means radio stations are paid to give the song a certain amount of spins for a defined period of time. Is that payola? Again, depends on how you define it.
