I'm not here for the numbers, I don't listen numbers, but I'm in a kpop forum where we discuss about several things, music, concept, lyrics, charts, streams, etc etc etc. There is nothing wrong when done with moderation.

Edit: and I voted I'm a success stan based on your op definition, but I listen to a lot of kpop, popular or not, if I like the song I'll listen it.

As a big fan of NiziU, GWSN, Weki Meki and gugudan ... the arts (for me)

I don't know, I started stanning ATEEZ, because I liked Inception and then I checked out their other stuff and "dang, I guess I'm stanning them now."

And well... I used to stan Voisper, because "In Your Voice" and "Heart" were such good songs.

And I started stanning BEWAVE because I liked SING ! (and heck, Hard To Get To You is a good song too)

Hmmm, I think I semi-success stan because I only check out groups that are already somewhat known lol.

I'm too lazy to listen to nugu groups, but I do follow Nugu Promoter and occasionally check out the groups there.

So, by principle, I am for the arts since I will listen to anyone, and add it to my playlist if the song is good.

In practice, I am probably more for the charts. Just because it's easier to follow and keep up with groups who have already seen some success.

Knowing about charts is different from using it in a vindictive way for your own enjoyment like you do. People like you fall into the success stan category.

I just want my faves to live comfortably of their job or/and passion. I don’t care about the rest.
