katseye isn’t kpop
If Katseye are not Kpop, then we should say the same about: BTS, TWICE, Blackpink, Le Sserafim, ILLIT etc, because pretty much all of them only care about the Western market and 90% of their songs are in English. Not to mention, their songs are not even sounds like Kpop anymore.

they literally sing in Korean

Aespa clearly getting big dollars poured into them by SM-Kakao. They saw an opportunity when MHJ took down NJ, LSRFM and Illit all at once and they didnt hesitate to push Aespa into the vacuum. However much i love M**arina and some of their epic megabops, i wish Kakao would have put this "investment" into Ive instead.

Let's see their overall stats, that's fair, I think, and not for just 1 song.
aespa: debut in 2020
ILLIT: debut in 2024
Le SSerafim: debut in 2022
Katseye: debut in 2023
IVE: debut in 2021
NewJeans: debut in 2022
Poor IVE can Starshit give them more playlist. They are one of the older groups here but still so little can Starshit spend more money?
I guess we can see from here which are the most privileged groups
No wonder they are so nugu and disbanding
-
If 2m playlisting makes them Spotify Payola Queens, then I want everyone to have less than 2m playlist reach for their cbs

Lmaoo it's only a problem cuz aespa is beatibg their favs with less playlist
While their favs agency is spending all the money they have on payola and playlist and can't even do as well them

This is the real nugu shit. People should put 100 times more respect on MAMAMOO's name being in the TOP10 still with less than 60M playlisting overall!
CUBE, SME, and RBW be like: "We worked so hard."

Blackpink: debut in 2016
Say whatever you want, but at least YG daddy knows how to promote! HYBE really said: "We're gonna beat your record in playlisting."🤣
TWICE: debut in 2015
ITZY: debut in 2019
Red Velvet: debut in 2014
No wonder they're MAMAMOO's best friend. 11 years of mistreatment bring people together.

The 2 rookies coming for the heads of the giants. It's gonna be ILLIT, probably.
Babymonster: debut in 2023

katseye aren't kpop. their songwriters aren't korean and they don't sing in korean. they are american pop group.
Again, we could say the same about all of those groups I mentioned. The only difference between them is that the older ones started with an actual Korean career.

They only difference? That's exactly the difference that's important. They don't speak Korean apart from yoonchae who is korean, they don't sing in Korean, they don't have Korean song writers. They live in the US. Nothing about them as a group is korean. And even if they recorded Korean versions that wouldn't make them kpop.
No, we can't. They are korean artists who recorded songs specifically for a certain market. idols record japanese songs all the time and that doesn't make them jpop. bts will always be Korean boy band. They are Koreans, their mother tongue is Korean and bonus is that hey songwriters are korean.
One is american group, 2nd one is korean. Why sre we even discuss this, is beyond međ

Never said they're Kpop, I said, all of those groups are NOT Kpop ANYMORE! That's all.
Just because SOME of them are Koreans doesn't mean they make Kpop. You can argue about this all day, but the fact is that they release more English songs and Western Pop music than Kpop or Korean music.

Nothing weird about a popular artist having a bigger playlist reach compared to a nugu artist. The more popular the artist is the more playlist reach they're bound to have. A lot of big playlists aren't even curated and are based on song streams like the global top 50 playlist and then each individual country have their own top 50. BP get even their bsides on some of these while mamamoo never even got their title tracks in the global top 200. That alone makes a big difference. But as for the curated playlists of course the editors will favor artists that many people actually like to listen to. Unsurprisingly BTS has by far the biggest total playlist reach

Who said it's weird? What I said is not a shade about popular groups, it's actually a trashing of the agencies of smaller groups or even big ones like SME. They're barely doing a better job than small agencies like CUBE or RBW with MAMAMOO.
For me, being in the TOP10 even tho MAMAMOO didn't have a comeback for 3 YEARS and having less than 60M playlisting is a massive achievement, honestly, it's much bigger than anything BIG4 groups achieved on Spotfy, because their numbers are not even surprising. It's expected.

Because kpop can be more than just “making music in Korean”
They formed under an idol trainee system under a kpop company and promote in ways very similar to kpop groups. They are far more similar to any kpop group than they are to American pop groups or girl groups.
Katseye is a global “kpop” group and imo that’s the niche they’ll always be unless they break away from the idol mold.
When I say trainees who were made by a big company, are given specific positions and dance synchronized while singing pop songs with minimal input in the creative direction of the group you 100% think kpop. Not fifth harmony. Or some other American pop group.

Mate, aren't you a BLINK? Even the songs that are not fully English barley has Korean lyrics.
Honestly, I never felt BP was a real Kpop group, maybe in their 1st year, but that's all. YG was always more about the Western market, even before BP.
TWICE is more disappointing for me, because I used to love their songs, but I don't hear the old TWICE in their new songs anymore. BP didn't change at all, so that's not surprising.
As for the new groups, it's obvious that SK is not the main focus anymore.

so that we can call them a kpop group
