Is Starship doing the worst media play for a rookie group in K-Pop history?

  • How do you manage to not only provoke and incite the rage of Bunnies (this has been discussed ad nauseum this week), but ALSO trigger the fandom of your own girl group and biggest act under your label?

I've seen posts by Dives raging against SS pretty much every day, and while everyone focused on the NJZ aspects of their media play this week, they did also indirectly reference IVE and shaded them too, hence the angry Dives.

    What are they doing? :meme-u-ok:

I know noise marketing is a thing, but they're driving up enmity as well as interest, and that's not a good strategy. Ends don't always justify the means.

  • Go to Best Answer
  • they should stop it asap

and stop copying or using njz formula so closely

a direction or some inspiration is ok but heavy inspiraiton or referencing is not

    that can fire back hard

specially after the whole hybe/illit sh*tshow last year!

same with h2h by the way, for their case, it would be better if their inspi were mostly snsd in a more trendy way, not fx/rv/njz.

copycats just look cheap and shameless :meme-stare: .

and the whole thing can quickly turn malvolent in both ways :pepe-tea: .

It's a different division managing kk, dives should demand proper ttreatment for Ive especially considering that the special treatment kk gets now is thanks to Ive money, but they should be mad with Ives division, not kiiikiiis. Also, when starship applied the strategy they're doing with kk now in baddie era, everyone blamed sse, so ppl should make their fkin minds instead of just whining

Do dives even know that Ive has their own division😅?

I found out about it yesterday

Also Distribution thing should be on SSE not their division I think….

Anyways Distribution has became sh*t since Kakao took over SM, so I blame Kakao. Does Kakao manage Ive’s sales and distribution?

Oh sorry, fam. New Friendly Rivalry episode dropped and that got all my attention immediately.

    catzi

    Let me help you both.

From the musical style to the detailed concepts, Kiki has set herself apart from NewJeans. The members running through vast nature presented a fresh yet dreamy Bohemian mood, showcasing a captivating charm.

Particularly, the members expressed a free-spirited and dynamic energy not commonly seen in girl groups—placing ladybugs on their faces, climbing trees, tumbling in a grassy field, and performing aerial spins on a trampoline.

With this, KiiiKiii has made a smooth start in creating a unique path, distinct from both her senior idol group, IVE, and the similarly compared NewJeans.

That last line did not sit any better with K-Dives than the nonsense about NJZ.

And I wouldn't have made this thread if I hadn't seen articles clearly by Dives bashing SS for things related to IVE that only Dives would know or care about, like the article Taemin-Identity

And today there is a new one with fans asking for Wonyoung and Yunjin to leave the company

    I'm not making this up.

  • Do dives even know that Ive has their own division😅?

It was revealed before kk released their song, dives already knew it was a brand new division managing kiiikiii. About distribution we don't know yet, but if it happens then dives have the right to be mad. But rn they're mad over pure speculation

  • Thats just shady journalism that always existed Yama

A lion doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep, even less shady underpaid journalists that write anything for clicks and comments

  • I think kpop fans are becoming more insecure each passing day.

This group didn't even debut yet, but we already see tons of kpop fans ready to drag them be it dives, bunnies, sme gg stans, and the only reason they are doing it it's bc they are insecure, but about what? Good question.. about what? This just happens bc of one reason: when you start thinking your faves success is also yours.

Let's breath, guys. These girls will end up debuting in the middle of a hate train. This isn't nice.

About articles: I can't say for sure it was paid by SS so I won't 100% condemn them. Years ago journalists loved to use BP and BTS name together and a lot of armys blamed YGE for this even though the source wasn't by YGE... The hate BP got in that time and still get is insane. Why do this to a not debuted group?

Let's be honest, how many journalists aren't writing shit just to get clicks? Idk, sometimes thinking it's good.

  • I honestly feel bad for them all as they have all been trainees since elementary school and now Starship is being dumb and making them suffer

I am still legitimately interested in their debut and have high expectations for the music, but SS is doing too much.

There IS a law of diminishing returns when it comes to most things in life, and that law is especially applicable with media play.

I think it's safe to say a line was crossed somewhere when two fandoms of the two biggest girl groups in Korea are a little bit perturbed.

And I'm not talking about anything related to the concepts, teasers or visuals for KK; this is solely about their media play, which I've recently learned SS is notorious for.

  • The problem is this. SS can't be trusted.

One of their top executives was caught leaving shady comments about Danielle on an IG post a year ago.

Want to know something even funnier? They got caught following the NJZ IG account recently.

ShadyShip has me side eyeing their every move now.

  • Honestly, I used to wonder why Sistar wanted to leave so badly when they admitted that SS also invested a lot in them. Now that I see how their junior groups are constantly shoved in weird PR moves, like the Apple TV music documentary and now this. I understand why they bought their copyright to their name and bounced :lsfm23:

  • Also, this might be a bit off topic.

I used to wish Day6 just leave JYPE but they end up didn't. JYPE has always treated Day6 as their least favourite child, always prioritising other groups before them. StudioJ was infamously shitty and many fans were confused as to why Day6 continued with them.

    Somehow, it all works out.

Bottomline is, the members will choose what they want to do. They themselves know what is best for them. Whether they want to continue, leave, disband, there is nothing I can do about it. I'll just continue supporting them in every way I can.

  • Oh please, what company can be trusted? But you are basing this in NOTHING so what makes you right? Bc when the real njz copycat (sorry illit) debuted you were blinding defending them from people who were saying how they kinda looked like njz, etc, but now you 100% believe this is by SS? :meme-excuse-me:

  • Yes, that's..very off topic.

  • Very true point. Also ... a bit also off topic on your off topic. People seem to forget Day6 and Xdinary Heroes

were not the only artists on StudioJ because they never promoted the others before they left.

  • I hate how everyone just immediately puts the blame on the company and uses that to justify making comments that could be harmful to this new rookie group. I don't have any doubt that it could be mediaplay, but it seems to just be speculation at this point. How about maybe conducting yourselves like normal functioning human beings instead of flying off the handle immediately? But no one will, they will just say it's SSE's fault for doing mediaplay and continue being stupid. Not pointed at anyone here in particular, just saying in general.... :exit-pepe:

TIL Sistar left SS and took their name with them :wow:

I'm just saying SS in particular, as I have learned, has a history of doing absurd media play, with the approach that any noise is good noise.

I'm just amused they've executed it so poorly that Dives in Korea at least are now triggered, and there's a new series of posts FROM ANGRY K-DIVES every day this week.

And I know you didn't just handwave away the fact that top executive got caught in 4K leaving a shady comment like an unhinged HYBE stan on Reddit :pepe-joy:

Also we don't talk about my ILLIT era :pepestare:

Wasnt to focus on their solo career? Only soyou kept signed and another member focused on acting. Based on how peaceful their disbandment was I would assume they disbanded on good terms. Boyfriend is the group that had the worst treatment but that has little to do with mediaplay

Honestly most of this thread is now us talking about SSE messing up their other groups not KiiiKiii :felix-faint:

Yes they did leave without any drama but I was saying if any of the silliness behind the scenes comes out to be true, then it would make more sense as to why they did not disband but left. :/ I am still not 1000% on board with the mediaplay theory but more so annoyed that if they are doing that, they are messing up the career of yet another one of their groups.

Also yes... Boyfriend deserved a lot better. Their title tracks may have gotten worse later on but their album tracks were always fantastic.

I mean, at this point, I've seen more angry reactions from Dives on the Korean side than any other fandom, including Bunnies. In fact, Korean Tokkis have barely made any noise at all. We kind of having bigger things to worry about.

But this week alone I've seen Dives complain about IVE's budget, the way their promotions have been handled, their staff being siphoned to support the new group on the block, demands for WY/YJ to leave the company, charts showing how much profit IVE have generated for them since debut, and that only started happening after IVE got name dropped for the aforementioned media play.

    What a perplexing strategy.

Had I been in charge of marketing, I would've had DIVES throwing money at KiiKii to support IVE's little sisters, not wanting the company executives to burn for not appreciating the accomplishments of IVE enough.

  • People are so obsessed with companies and saving idols lol.

It’s their life they will make the choices that’s right for them. People who always focus on companies and what they do are so cringe. They’re always in a biggest sob story competition. Part of EXO left and part stayed and these two groups are at their throats trying to prove “SM is good” vs “SM is the worst”. Like stfu it’s not YOUR life 😭

Just listen to the music and enjoy the product man. Let the idols deal with their own shit.

Anyway NJZ themselves are moving to some “mature” concepts, concepts have such a short window where they stay relevant that ppl who obsesses over them amuse me lol.
