The Most Dangerous Double Standard In K-POP

  • The standards between males and females.

I'm sure we have all witnessed the true extent of the wide gap between the norms that apply to males and females in the k-pop industry. But something that I itch to talk about is the issue of minors debuting.

So often have I seen several kpop fans bring this up..in the case of a female minor but when it comes to a minors that are boys, I hear relatively low complaints. Example of this is ENHYPEN's Ni-Ki (debuted at 14), Stray Kids' I.N (debuted at 16), NCT-127's Haechan (debuted at 16), NCT-DREAMS' Jisung, BTS' Jungkook (debuted at 15), BIGBANG's Seungri (debuted at 16), TREASURE's Junghwan and Jongwoo (both debuted at 15), Doyoung and Haruto (both debuted at 16), and the list goes on.

I'm not trying to say that the female minors that debut shouldn't be given any attention but please let us start protecting all minors regardless of gender.

  • I'm very iffy about Minors debuting. I think it takes an extremely good and ethical company for me to be okay with debuting minors. And a company that isn't money hungry.

But the conditions most minor idols are put under is horrendous. Male or female, it doesnt matter. SK needs to have additional laws to protect minors if they plan on letting minors debut

  • I have nothing against minors debuting boys or girls

minors have been performing and "debuting" in the western entertainment industries and in sports and other aspects of public life before and after kpop

if you want the kind of kpop life then learn about it before getting into it - read your bloody contracts and get a lawyer if you cannot afford one - you cannot afford to give up seven years of your life

I personally would never allow my own children to get into kpop but I also wouldn't prevent others from wanting to do the same if they so choose

  • I think most people care about both. I also think people know and are concerned about the working conditions for idols regardless of age and regardless of gender.

Due to how a lot of men are and due to how female entertainers are often treated and depicted, concern about female idols is understandably brought up more often.
