Sure.

The problem here is that we're not talking about singers.

We're talking about idols. There is a huge difference. No one goes to an Adele concert to watch her dance to Hybe Boy. Just like no one goes to a Kpop concert to watch them belt out Someone Like You.

Remember how Koreans were talking about the Six Axes of Kpop idols? Vocals are only ONE of those axes and arguably the least important along with rapping. Visuals, dance, personality, and stage presence are 10000 more important.

I know a couple of groups who have no problem modifying their dance so that its still a full vocal and dance performance

vocals matter to a certain extent...

idols are that - idols

they aren't singers and singers only - they sing, dance, perform, rap, act, mc, model, etc etc

and therefore one shouldn't expect them to be able to perform well in all areas

obviously if a person was into kpop because of the vocals then can stan idols with great voices but there are others who stan idols because of their own reasons

one IA in the future is going to make vocals obsolete. So, this thread is dumb, you are dumb and everybody involve in this is also dumb. We all are stupid except Morisette.

I like Jisoo, but it's not like he lied. Jisoo could be a great singer with a recognizable tone like hers, but it's clear she doesn't care about music. She's a model/actress. Lisa and her are the weakest in the group when it comes to vocals.

If you were born yesterday, I accept your point. I follow Kpop since 1st gen. Visuals were always important, but being at least an average vocalist, was the standard. Nowadays, it's enough if you're cute or sexy.

You ignore vocals, because your faves can't do the bare minimum. Everyone knows it.😅

Notice how OP said they need to know how to sing, no one said they need to be Adele ffs, they need to know how to sing because part of being an idol is having someone who can SING in a song.

People don't expect Adele to dance because she can't but what about Beyonce she sings and dances!!

Sigh. There was a reason why the idol label had stigma attached to it. But it eroded over time and I'd like to see it continue being that way. I prefer idols who can sing. They don't have to be Adele level or anything but should still be able to carry a tune.

If dancing and looking nice would be the only requirements for idols, then what even is the point?

People would be happier stanning a dance crew and a few influencers, in that situation.

The reason why Kpop is so popular and has such big fanbases is because idols are an entire package - dance, image, singing/ rapping and personalities. And since one human can’t do everything or has difficulties doing everything well, having multiple members to fulfill different roles helps create a balanced package at the end.

No one expects Whitney Houston, but to be at least decent in the art of singing, as a main vocalist, is the bare minimum. That’s literally their job’s description.

That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Only Rose can sing on a decent level in BP. All of them had a great potential, and it's not their fault that they didn't get any vocal training, but now if they won't do it, it's theirs.

I'm not saying Jisoo is crap, but she can't hold a single note without losing breath. Her best performance is that Japanese song.

You're talking about vocals, but you can't (more like, don't want to) see that your faves are not good vocalists. Not much better than ILLIT or LSF. Rose is literally carrying the group. You don't have to believe me, you can watch many vocal coaches analyzing them. But you don't have to be a vocalist or vocal coach to hear, they're not good singers.

IU is probably my biggest fave as a soloist, but she's not better than average. It's not about whom I love or not, it's about talent. IU has the experience and the technique to make her performance much better. IU aren't one of the best performer because she's a great vocalist, she's singing the way she acts. You can feel what she wants to sing. Rose can do that, but she lacks experience. The other members can't do half of that, and based on what I heard from so far, I can tell, they don't want to do that anyway. They're doing the easy route, unlike Rose.
