Newgen fans are so weird

  • I became a kpop stan in 2013, which was right on the very start of 3rd gen. I was a little too young to remember the cultural moments that happened then, but one thing I really realize is how bad kpoppies have gotten since then, especially 5th/4th gen stans. Sure, in 3rd gen you had blinks and armys and exols fighting 24/7 (like stays and moas and SOMEHOW still armys) but I remember group actually interacting and being friends, but now with the shooting global popularity of kpop and ofc delulu teenage girls believing that their oppa is in love with them nobody talks to anyone anymore... for example key and hyoyeon pretended to kiss a while back and literally nobody cared it was all jokes, but now half of riize is getting canceled for having girlfriends, seunghan even left. if you look at music shows, no groups interact because delulu kpop fans will turn the littlest things into a possibly career ruining dating rumor.

tl;dr: i wish it was 2016 again and newgen fans need to chill the hell out

  • the silent majority is often drowned out by the vocal minority

there are bad apples in each fandom, hobby, activity etc etc

we do not judge an entire country by the actions of one adolf hitler and thus we shouldn't judge an entire group fandom/generation etc etc by the actions of a few bad apples

true but also scandal related hiatuses are so much more rampant now than say 6 or 7 years ago, i can name a bunch of idols who have gotten kicked due to scandals (chuu, soojin, hyunjin almost, dawn, wonho, woojin, seunghan, garam) from the past couple years but earlier than that i can only think of the members of exo-m who left SM. and who caused these? the fans. they may be a minority but in certain fandoms the toxicity is rampant plus its enough for these multimillion dollar companies to listen to them.

  • I don't care about the newer gen I just care if they pretend to know allat and listen to what they call "underground" artists (just opium and slayworld) even tho those artists aren't underground anymore

this is a kpop forum and you copy-paste a reply to a reddit thread about destroy lonely

but could that be because the rise of social media makes "scandals" more prevalent...whereas previously they weren't as prominently known on social media???

I dunno much about the previous generation since I wasn't around in 2013 - I only got into kpop in 2019 - but if we're taking about scandals from previous gen

    Jessica and SNSD?

    AOA and Jimin and Mina???

Park Bom and the "drug scandal"

didn't fans in the first gen get into literal street brawls?

    Jay Park and 2PM?

(and that's off the limited knowledge I know)

  • True. Those are all lots older like late 2000s-early 10s (which of course i wouldn't remember i was literally born in 2010), when I first became a digitally active stan was mid 10s which was honestly the golden era of kpop

And 1stgen/2ndgen stans were weird like that too. I forget which group but a fan told the idol that she physically beat up a fan of another group and i think he congratulated her?? Also ssngs were weird back then too you don't see much like DBSK Yunho getting poisoned with superglue or Taecyeons blood letter...

wow you became a kpop stan at 3??? lol

impressive what got you into kpop my friend?

yeah I guess that's my point that each generation has scandals and horrible fans it's just that it's more prominent these days on social media and that you hear about it more...

like there's lots of crazy saesangs these days but it's going to be hard to determine if there's more of them compared to the past or if it's just more known since those crazy behaviours are more reported and shared and whatnot
