AKP is just a commentary on Kpop achievements and failures

  • I know I am saying something super obvious but I just want to vent.

I like the Forums format because we can post different mediums like a YT video and a long text. But the forums have become nothing but discussing success not what makes this success.

It’s a shame because if someone makes a thread sharing any good/interesting/fun Kpop video/song, none of us here would bother to watch but if I shared the same thing and said it’s something that is going viral, everyone is interested.

Like these platforms (mostly TikTok because Twitter only creates controversies) that have a video go viral must have actual people that are engaging.

These TikTok videos go viral or become popular because they are good. Why can’t the same thing happen here? Someone sharing anything and the thread gets decent engagement (at least the same engagement chart threads get) because of the shared content’s quality? What makes the TikTok community normal?

  • What exactly did you want to talk about that no one cared for?

I find this forum quite engaging albeit with dwindling traffic. I’ve had nice conversations about music, current events, charts, why some groups are successful and many things. Perhaps the topics you choose aren’t interesting?

  • If you're saying that threads that are the most controversial or the most inflammatory get the most engagement, unfortunately that's just human nature. There are plenty of times i wanna talk about something else besides charts or the latest scandals, but i already know those threads will barely get any engagement.

There are hardly any vocal Wizones left anymore so all my Wizone appreciation posts flop, but i still post them anyway, i was planning to spam the forum with a dozen tweets involving Izone today but i forgot to bookmark the tweets lol.

The only subject outside of charts, fandom wars, scandals, headline news, etc that gets any traction appear to be stuff relating to vocals. In this day and age of autotune where NOBODY is truly singing, vocals are literally the least important part of Kpop or Hot 100 pop, yet every vocal thread ends up getting multiple pages of engagement. Kinda confusing to me tbh but folks get real protective of their faves' vocals.

This is a great thread series by Hopkinz and he spends a lot of time and energy doing it almost daily and it doesn't get close to the engagement it deserves. It has almost 600 entries with writeups and updates on group members and everything. Every entry is conveniently linked to every previous entry. It's a goldmine.

WAIT A DARN MINUTE HERE, ISNT THIS WHERE YOU GOT THE GIF OF THE MYSTERY WOMAN FROM? This is THE Jessica? :starec:

  • The forum is pretty dead honestly. The only time a thread gets a lot of replies is if it's comparing annoying chart data, calling a group a flop, or if it's about a scandal. It's just the same stuff, to be honest. But there are users that post appreciation threads or just any other thread not about the things I listed (even though barely any users care to reply).

I wish we had more diverse threads and discussions but honestly, I don't see that happening any time soon.

  • Because we're just a Kpop forum, and this is purely for our entertainment. These companies didn't pay us to discuss nugu and unpopular topics. If they did, I would start doomposting about every nugu that has ever existed on this earth in this forum. Since they didn't, obviously, people will talk about hot and interesting issues only. Do Kpop stans want to talk about their non-faves or engage in any praise threads about groups they're not interested in or even know, unless it's a hot topic to be discussed?

And you're putting too much faith in a dead forum with fewer than 100 active users left.

Nothing in particular but like when I open TikTok for example I see interesting Kpop things pop up because the community there shares anything they perceive as good then depending on how good it is, it creates something viral (but discussion wise, I hate the comments format so I don’t stay there long enough).

In contrast when I go to AKP all I see are threads about charts and achievements (not that those are bad, it is just that they are the only ones with engagements). I am here just venting and wondering why something gets engagement because it’s good in some platforms while other pfs don’t work that way. I feel like the AKP forums is becoming more like the AKP site. Just reporting records and controversies with comments under it.

  • Because charts and achievements are the topics that generate more debate. Whilst opinions about music are merely subjective, one can argue charts and sales are more objective tools to measure success, so analytical discussion about data is bound to be more absorbing.

There are plenty of threads about the actual music and deep diving into kpop discographies on this forum. Apart from bop/flop threads which consist in users sharing their first listen opinions, these type of threads get very little traction compared to threads about charts and success metrics simply because there is little to discuss. So what is the point of making those threads if only 2-3 people will comment on them?

    Thank you. i subscribed.

People here saying it's mostly fanwar etc that people respond to are right, but it's also because that invites more conversation.

If someone posts a song that everyone likes, the most people will say about it is: "It's great"

Once that had been said, nothing else happens.

With a fanwar or other type of more negative discussion, people will leap to the defense of something and attack in return. So often two people can go at it for many comments long as they want to have the last word. They might like a song more than a fanwar, but there is just less incentive to make a second post than when someone quotes you saying: "You're wrong! Your faves are flops because..."

Only way you can get people really discussing music on here is if its a debate like a charts thread

"This is The Objective Best Song ever"

We are just argumentative, condescending creatures

  • When you put it like this, it makes me question what I was even thinking.

I guess the lack of engagement in other threads obviously also goes back to activity of the site. Some K forums like theqoo don’t face these problems because they are active. The community share regular Kpop stuff and if it’s good enough it generates popular content.

I should probably stop depending entirely on AKP for my Kpop consumption.
