AKP is just a commentary on Kpop achievements and failures

  • Well.... when I make appreciation threads and positive threads, it doesn't get much engagement.

Or at least some of the threads, I've made, that are like "Oh, I just discovered this really good kpop song" don't get many engagement.

EDIT: Okay, most of my threads are silly and stuff, but very very few of them are about kpop achievements and failures. (or I'm the OP of a ATEEZ achievement thread, but I actually don't think I care that much about achievements.)

  • Nothing in particular but like when I open TikTok for example I see interesting Kpop things pop up because the community there shares anything they perceive as good then depending on how good it is, it creates something viral (but discussion wise, I hate the comments format so I don’t stay there long enough).

In contrast when I go to AKP all I see are threads about charts and achievements (not that those are bad, it is just that they are the only ones with engagements). I am here just venting and wondering why something gets engagement because it’s good in some platforms while other pfs don’t work that way. I feel like the AKP forums is becoming more like the AKP site. Just reporting records and controversies with comments under it.

Because AKP is a discussion forum lol. Tiktok is not for discussion. You have to post something that’s worth discussing.

  • Those who still stay active on forums are usually stans of popular groups or company stans, and it isn’t in their interest to see less popular groups start getting traction. This is common in Twitter but just more noticeable in forums.

  • A lot of K-pop fans in general don’t care about K-pop. They care more about the metrics and statistics about it. It’s almost like a simulation for them. Reminds me of one of those tycoon games where you change certain variables and watch things unfold out of curiosity.

K-pop could have a year where all groups release blank albums without any music at all, but these fans would still be invested. They could debut fictional groups without any members, and there would still be popularity rankings.

This sounds cynical, but it just comes to prove what people have been saying all along — that idols are nothing but products to their companies. It’s not just the companies that treat them as such. Their own supposed fans also view them as such; look at the way they use their faves as bragging rights to retaliate against other fandoms. Imagine working so hard to show the world your artistry as an entertainer only for your own fans to reduce you to numbers and commodities.

  • Not just akp but forums in general are a dying breed (outside a few niche forums) and have been on a decline for over a decade now. Reddit (why make 10 different accounts on ten different sites when you can have one account for thousands of "forums") and social media are eating it up.

Forums will continue to exists just like IRC etc still does, but the average age is increasing while the userbase is decreasing year by year.

Just a few years(2-3) ago akp was 10x more active, and 1hallyu (lol, proper name is censored on this forum wth) was probably the biggest forum out there for kpop (before that there was hallyu8), and today its a shell if what it used to be and will be closing down in just a couple of days.

The sad part is with forums going away a ton of information and data also goes. As it did with the forum revamp here a couple of years ago.

  • Unfortunately, a forum is a community and a community is just a sum of all its parts. Achievements is what the majority care about here so that is the whole of what you are seeing.

This forum also have alot of users with history and enemies so some may still look at a thread but not bother to post unless it's too fight. It's in a constant state of tension.

We don't have as much multis here as we used to, everyone has chosen sides and stuck with it. While drama has always been what drew the most engagement, we used to have alot of cross fraction engagement here.

To me at least, when I first joined, it felt like users engaged with each other due to shared common interest of kpop, now it seems like it's simply used to share their difference in opinion.

This is just my opinion for someone who been here since 2019. I could be remembering wrong, but I remember a time when I had to wait to post a thread because if I timed it wrong, nobody will see it because new thread only lasted on the front page for few minutes because of how many post was going on and the majority of those were not fight threads.

  • Maybe try commenting and engaging on posts that aren't the achievements...learn about new groups or make your own for groups you enjoy...there's always people, like myself, who could give 2 shits about fan wars and achievements and just wanna post about my faves. if you like something someone posts engage with it!

I just make random threads about stuff that interests me, sometimes I don't get any likes or comments but thats okay I don't care. Chart threads and controversy threads don't really interest me.

That being said if this site closes down, I just won't have a place to talk about Kpop on as I don't plan to ever make a Tiktok or X account.

  • It's everywhere and not just AKP. A d*k measuring contest, you see it on shorts like YT, Tiktok, and even IG. All the comments are the same, just with different users and artists.

On one hand, you have genuine people who like KPOP and wanted to share them with everyone. Like the user with song of the day recommendation or bartkun with his idol's update. Then there's the other side, where they use KPOP as an identity and personality. They really don't care about the artists behind it and treat them as a commodity or a trophy.

If you have ever noticed, fanwars are created by fans, for fans. With all the clips going around of idols interacting and having fun with each other, you then wonder why fans of each groups likes to eat each other's face off. Because its fun, its entertaining, its stimulating to slap the other idol's fan in the face to say 'Mine did better than yours'. That's the mentality of SOME of your average KPOP stans. And generally, its women who gets the blunt of it. Ladies of KPOP groups, I feel bad for them.

Its been happening since 2nd gen, as far as I can remember. 1st Gen is more of- go to the street and duke it out, but yeah.
