I'm tempted to say 2016, since that year was peak GFriend, Twice at the height of their powers, Mamamoo finally becoming a top tier girl group after 2 years of being underrated by the public, BlackPink's much-anticipated and much delayed debut, and Red Velvet already solidified as a top girl group...and now that I typed all that out, I almost picked 2016 again, but I just can't ignore 2018.
There was just so much great music and content from all of them, and they were still mostly dominating the charts.
Mamamoo had the ambitious 4 seasons project (a mini album for every season)
BlackPink entered their peak era with DDDD
Twice was still dominant and churning out hit after hit
GFriend released one of the best (and most criminally underrated) songs with Time For The Moonlight
Red Velvet released my personal favorite song by them to date with Bad Boy
Groups were also already having concerts and beginning to tour in 2018, while it was still too early for that in 2016.
Honestly 2016 and 2018 are my two most memorable years as a primarily girl group fan. Couldn't go wrong with either imo
I'm curious if someone will choose years other than those and why (I could certainly see arguments being made based on global charting/touring)
