I have a difficult time gauging between aespa and RV. One would think aespa since they're trendier and because they just had a comeback a couple months ago, but I have a hard time sleeping on Red Velvet so I'm cheating and putting both of them at number 5.

IVE does have a streak of #1 songs, their "B sides" do not do as well (Kitsch did). So they deserve the #3 best kpop girl group over all. After BP and NJ

Gidle since tomboy has been on a roll, so I say they are the #4 GG right now.

AESPA and Le Sserafim do not have a #1 song in Korea yet (circle weekly chart)

I agree in Korea but i think OP is talking globally...

ETA: now that i think about it though, maybe not even Korea? I mean FMR did really well, Queendom did good, but their last comeback flopped didnt it? I had totally forgotten about it.

Meanwhile Girls by Aespa did the same as Queendom (top 10) and Spicy has done extremely well, better than FMR which peaked at 3-4 i think.

Twice is probably 7th, since they still have enough popularity to sell out their world tour in large arenas, only BP can compete with that.

But album sales, others are doing better and charting, they have dropped a lot.

There is a substantial gap after that and then I think you have to put aespa.

The question is who is more popular worldwide? Gidle sold the most number of digital albums in China in 2022 of any kpop act and they’re currently number one for 2023 as well. There are over a billion people in China so it’s a massive market.

Looking at YouTube, Queencard is currently 10th on the official YouTube global weekly song chart in it’s 12th week. Which shows their popularity in the rest of the world outside of China where YouTube is blocked. Queencard is also still on the Spotify global top 200 chart, another sign of their global popularity.

1 person can put down 20 streams a day before it's filtered...1 person can't fill 20 seats...I suppose this is why those 2 groups are struggling to sell out their theater shows while Twice this year became the only famel group in the history of music to play multiple stadiums in the 2 biggest music markets in the world.

Also on average Twice do a lot better than both Aespa and Gidle in streaming lol.

I mean Republic Records seems to agree touring and actual fans are better since it wasn't Twice they dropped lol.

then a power gap to any other group if we are truly looking at worldwide and if we look at them within the context of impact/performance outside the normal kpop tribalism and into a greater popcultural realm.

Blackpink and Twice do numbers and do numbers where shit really counts. The profit driving areas. Concerts and albums. The members have power and impact not just in the scene but out of it as well and are bonafide "celebrities" to a greater degree than just "kpop stars".

NewJeans are showing nascent signs of also doing this and if anyone is at a short distant fourth its aespa.

Any other groups aren't really up to those levels
