Why actually lots of kpop fans are company stans?

  • While I really don't understand a pure company stan, that will stan all groups that the company debuts.

However since its more likely for song collabs and events to happen between artists in the same company and for artists in the a company to support other artists in the same company, fans of one group/artist are more likely to be exposed to other group/artist in the same company. You also have events such as SM Town and Hybe's Game Caterers.

  • I'm not a company stan by any means because i wish TOP MEDIA WOULD BURN

but damn if Top Media didn't produce some quality bg's

    Up10tion and 100% are *chef's kiss*

CUBE stupid bastards...Beast, Pentagon, BtoB, Troublemaker like...hello

I hate cube...but damn if they don't have some great groups that come out of there

    (justice for pengaton)

  • You make no sense

A person buy a smartphone because of price, availabaility ????

    + Features

Humm, yes. This I can say for sure. This is no mystery.

PS5 is, as stated, only one of the only 3 consoles in the market. The other one has the exact same price and the third one (Switch) can't run the same games i.e. it lacks the feature of running more demanding games. Still, people buy PS5 because it's less expensive them buying a gaming PC (price) and also much easier than don't need to actually know anything about tec and specifications (availabaility/convenience)

  • In kpop it's a bit hard to understand maybe, but when it comes to other products like for example PC games I can understand it aa bit. I have one or two favorite companies because I know they have done a lot of games I like so that makes me follow them a bit extra maybe.

In kpop groups in the same companies sometimes collaborate and interact with each other so that can be a reason to follow other groups from the same company.

I never care mush about any kpop company, but of cource I had a bit extra interest in Blackpink because one of my favorite groups 2NE1 being from the same company, but I don't really care about YGE.

  • Not only happen to big 3 but also for most companies in kpop entertainment. If they started to support one group in that company, they tend to support other new groups under that company too. I never really understand why this happen as I don't really see it in most entertainment industries at least the one that I'm familiar with.

And I never really grasp the idea of liking a company or directly supporting a group especially in their predebut era just because I stan someone from that company. Like how you guys do it? You just suddenly fall in love with the group that your faves associated with? Why??

I used to like lots of groups that were under SM at one point and people would callme SM stan even if it was all more a coincidence than anything else. I just liked their music and performances.

I have never understood that either but big companies do a good job promoting their trainees alongside their artists so people get to know them too. For that reason, it is easy for fans of older groups to know the potential members of a company's new group.

Some of the most known NCT members were already appearing in EXO's shows and I have seen the same was done with EXO and Super Junior, so I guess there is your answer on why people hype groups pre-debut. They already know the potential members and have an idea of what they can do.

  • Hmm in Asia, consumers have high brand loyalty and will specifically pursue a brand for all kinds of reason that isn’t tied to the cost but more about how they perceive the brand’s social reputation etc. This doesn’t have to be about luxury goods either. Like JK or Lisa mentioning some snacks and goods they use - boom! Sold OUT!

Indeed local/regional and cultural behaviour needs to be addressed accordingly. I just didn't expect it to the loyalty of certain products to be extended to the companies as well.

Sometimes people, like me buy brand just becaues they don't like it or just have a fixed idéa about something. Like me, I have always disliked when things and brands get "hyped" or gets too big. Like Iphone, Nexflix, Amazon. So I don't have a Iponen. I normaly don't buy Coca-Cola. Why? It's as typical symbol of USA and have fixed thing in my head not to buy it. I buy Pepsi instead that is also a symbol of USA, but not that so typical as Coke, I know is stupid, but I still do it.

So, people can have crazy mental stuff about brands and buy brands or not buy brands just for other reasons than it's price and functionality.

  • I’m not sure why it’s so heavily stigmatized and scrutinized.

We do this with other things in life. It’s simply having a preference for one brand over another, just like Disney, Apple, and Nike.

With K-pop, there’s also the idea that we’re financially investing into the future and careers of our favorites, so supporting another group from the company means we’re also indirectly supporting the main group that we stan. It’s the company that allocates the resources after all.

  • Kpop groups are not luxury products, they don't have such intrinsic value tied to it. Somehow kpop companies manage to turn a huge chunk of kpop stans rabbit stans of the companies themselves like pure dark magic.

What are your thoughts on, what if the consumer actually thinks some company or group is a luxury brand? Or treat them as such? A person doing it is no big deal, but a mass of consumers doing the same thing would then create a trend and becoming 'fact'. Would then that make them default to any brand (groups) that therein debut- instantly become a fan's favorite?

Sounds about right. I think the easiest one I can think of is Nolan's movie. He made many great one, and any other movies he make in the future will be extremely hyped up, with good reasons.

Being perceived as high quality does not equate to be luxury. Luxury product sells because of exclusivity. Kpop groups target the mass market, its the opposite of being luxury.

What I can say is some products have higher quality, so they selling more in long term is a given.

To some extent the Big4 are the ones who releases the higher quality groups. The big 4 can afford much better MVs, musical production, clothing, stage production, etc. They also produce more fan content and are more likely to endorse brand deals, acting gigs and even get fanmeetings and concerts not long after debut

However those are things that can only be properly evaluated after debut. Blind brand loyalty to a point of pre ordering albums of a group you don't know i.e. being a mindless robot of the company is not the standard in any industry

  • Hmm, we aren't looking at the same things. I don't check out SM groups because I want them to have all the same concept. I check them out because I know I'm getting a quality group, quality songs, quality promotions (as in consistent content releases). I'm not a fan of all their groups, or the company itself, but I will check their new groups out. Maybe it's just a difference in our definition of fan.

I think here as well, you're working with a narrow idea of value. It's not always about how people value the brand itself. It's also about how people value their own time and money. People make choices between different brands all the time. Eat at Maccas or Burger King? Shop at Walmart or elsewhere?

In my example, I have a limited time to spend on kpop, and so when I choose to spend it something new, chances are I'm going to check out something from one of the Big4 first, simply because there's a higher chance I'll get value for my time. Because of my previous experiences liking many SM groups, then it will likely be them first. Now I'm enjoying some Hybe groups as well, so the next group they debut I will probably go check out.

Its not only that. You dont need to stan all the other groups of a company or the company and their products in general to fall under the unfluence of the company.

Lets say you stan Aespa of SM. than you will most likely subscibe to SM youtube channel to get all the info and news about aespa. So even if you dont stan other groups you get their recomendations and news if they have a comeback. Over time you will even give them clicks by accident.^^

Not even mention the cross promo and colabs. This gives groups of bigger companies a much better and bigger reach to their consumers. The groups will automaticly receive a lot more attention.

Its the same for me. When i got into BB Girls i also learned about the other group in their company DKB. Even if im not really into Boy Groups i allways checked out their comebacks.

I guess even if the fans arent really all company stans or stan all groups of a company. In the mass they can appear like that.^^
