Why actually lots of kpop fans are company stans?

  • Not only happen to big 3 but also for most companies in kpop entertainment. If they started to support one group in that company, they tend to support other new groups under that company too. I never really understand why this happen as I don't really see it in most entertainment industries at least the one that I'm familiar with.

And I never really grasp the idea of liking a company or directly supporting a group especially in their predebut era just because I stan someone from that company. Like how you guys do it? You just suddenly fall in love with the group that your faves associated with? Why??

  • That's actually not just a kpop thing

It's a normal thing an entertainement company is just a company who sell their products they know what type of public they target and when somebody really like a product from a certain company they are most of the time more open to buy a product from the same company because they know they liked their previous products so they are encline to like the next one etc ... In comparison of buying the product of another company

People who think it's just a kpop things doesn't seem to understand that it's just marketing etc...

Why Apple user only buy apple product and never buy samsung or a huawei etc .. ? Because they know that the Products coming from apple fit their need and they like it, even if they see the interface of other smartphone like samsung etc... And even if all of them are just smarthphone the way apple market their product, their popularity and the fact that they trust the company because they had a good experience with their previous products make them want to keep buying apple product because why would they want to try something new if they are fine with what they already know ?

Just like there's so many wrestling companies but WWE keep leading even with other companies like AEW, TNA etc ... Because people have been consuming the products of WWE for years and are happy with how it's promoted, the way they do their storyline compare to other wrestling company and how they film their match and the different things they do

Just like there's people who are big fan of Atari game or how people keep buying the same franchise of a game every year because they know the products, like it etc....

It's the same thing with people who are fans pf cars and prefer to only buy mercedes , or renault etc...

Different kpop groups, different video games, different smarthphone etc .... At the end if you really enjoy a product from a company most of the time you also like other products from this same brand because

It's the brand who make the product not the product who make the brand

So whatever you buy you'll always find something that you liked in the previous products in the new products that they release

If you translate to kpop for example if you are someone who liked something new who bring a breeze of fresh air, and good aesthetic with futuristic aspect usually in games, art etc .. why would i go follow JYP knowing that none of his groups are following this aesthetic

When on the other side you have Nct and Aespa who are fitting perfectly this description

So why would i be excited to see the next products of JYP knowing that none of his previous products hyped me ?

Just like when you buy a shoes , if you really like an adidas shoes why would you be excited for a future nike shoes if Adidas is the brand the most encline to release a sneaker that might fit your taste 😑😑

  • I find it bizarre that people can't understand a preference for brands.

I could understand liking many groups of the same company, but barely because there isn't much similarity in groups of the same company. Indeed you will find more similarity in groups OUTSIDE the same company, because companies will always want to diversify their line up, not making everyone equal.

Well, except SM who is turning everybody into a NCT But I digress

However the subject of this thread is that people are not fans of the groups, they are fans of the company themselves. I like Disney movies, doesn't mean I like Disney itself

  • This is definitely NOT how the average consumer behaves omg :skull:

I'm saying this as a data analysist. A person buy a car, a smartphone and game because of pricing, avaibality, features and reviews (and word of mouth). A normal person don't "hype" a new smartphone, and likely don't even know a new smartphone is getting released until they need a new one.

Even allegiance for gaming consoles (and mind you there are only 3 in the market) is vastly overstated as 40% of the owners of a Switch for example also have a PS4 in USA.

Your logic only applies to very high end products like luxury brands, exclusive brands for sneakers, rich people cars and all other things where the brand is the selling point

All those thing however has a intrinsic value tied to it, which is indeed to be the luxury, something exclusive to make customers feel superior

Kpop groups are not luxury products, they don't have such intrinsic value tied to it. Somehow kpop companies manage to turn a huge chunk of kpop stans rabbit stans of the companies themselves like pure dark magic. It's something they should yield some studies because it's definitely not common

Of course you can find mobs who are rabbit fans of anything. Apple has their rabbit fans, but is definitely a very strange and not expected behavior

This does hit different tho :skull:

  • I have to admit that I liked everything from YG back then, even if it had more to do with the artists than with YG. The reason was simply the music genre. Some companies tend to change just a little bit, but still go in the same direction. At the time, I could have been called a company stan even when I wasn't. Many people associate the company with what they like.

Basically I think a lot of company stans just search for the same style over and over again. Sure there are excursions, but each company has a special style that they follow.

And yet, everyone hates on a company when their faves does not do as well as they expected.

One of the mysteries in life.

  • They my be a minority of consumers, but Ford truck families and Chevy truck families do exist.

And I would bet that is similar among kpop fans, a small percentage of the overall fandom are label stans, but we hear about them.

  • Hmm in Asia, consumers have high brand loyalty and will specifically pursue a brand for all kinds of reason that isn’t tied to the cost but more about how they perceive the brand’s social reputation etc. This doesn’t have to be about luxury goods either. Like JK or Lisa mentioning some snacks and goods they use - boom! Sold OUT!

  • Hmm, we aren't looking at the same things. I don't check out SM groups because I want them to have all the same concept. I check them out because I know I'm getting a quality group, quality songs, quality promotions (as in consistent content releases). I'm not a fan of all their groups, or the company itself, but I will check their new groups out. Maybe it's just a difference in our definition of fan.

I think here as well, you're working with a narrow idea of value. It's not always about how people value the brand itself. It's also about how people value their own time and money. People make choices between different brands all the time. Eat at Maccas or Burger King? Shop at Walmart or elsewhere?

In my example, I have a limited time to spend on kpop, and so when I choose to spend it something new, chances are I'm going to check out something from one of the Big4 first, simply because there's a higher chance I'll get value for my time. Because of my previous experiences liking many SM groups, then it will likely be them first. Now I'm enjoying some Hybe groups as well, so the next group they debut I will probably go check out.

That's fair, I also check out Big4 groups first because I have limited time to spend. However this is not the point of the thread neither what the used I quoted was addressing

They were talking about being a fan and hype before debut. Like when people pre order cars from luxury brands just because they are from that specific luxury line. We see pages dedicated to stan groups even before they get officially announced and those kind of rabbit fans are never new customers but rather loyal fans of other groups inside the same company who will, sometimes, drop their older groups to favor the newer ones. It's a strong sign their allegiance lies on the company, not on their idols

    You make no sense

A person buy a smartphone because of price, availabaility ????

The two biggest brand of smarthphone are apple and samsung and they are the one who got the highest price and the least availability

Let's not talk about review when apple was in the mess for their battery who were formated to become obsolete after few years they were still at the top because people were ready to buy their products because it was apple

If price was the first criteria people wouldn't buy samsung or apple but huawei and other brand less expensive 😑😑

Same thing about the ps5 who was very pricy but people were still buying it and waiting for months to get their hands on it even if it wasn't available

People are literally hyping GTA VI for almost 10 years without having any picture etc.... Just based on the GTA brand

So you can't be serious when saying ppl buy based on price and availability 😑😑😑

People buy things and hype things everytime and not just luxury brand what is this BS narrative

Clearly the data analysis weren't analyze correctly :pepe-cringe::pepe-hehe:
