Gaon digital year-end over the years

  • Saw this summary of Gaon's year-end chart per year posted on another platform and was like why not repost it here too cause I like stats and reading hot takes.

In parenthesis is the number of entries a given group had in the year.

no idea, some people theorize it was because of burning sun, but i am not completely sold on this because if that was the sole reason they would have just blacklisted everybody, meanwhile two YG groups charted despite YG being in the center of the scandal by default. i think it's partly because it felt like a transitional year too (as in we were in a new generation officially) so nothing really stuck with people/people had a hard time adapting to the new trends? idk.

    peaking...

  • Probably a combination of Burning Sun affecting public perception of idols/idol groups + over-saturation from the year before

I think if it was burning sun then YG groups should have felt most of the heat but they didn't. Girl groups also didn't chart as many songs as before.

I think the transition period makes more sense. Plus maybe the rise of trot?
