I Think It's Time For BEP to Stop Producing STAYC's Music

  • Yes, exactly that.

    I wasn't prepared lol.

I'm all for GGs experimenting, but this switch up was a little jarring. If this had come right after Stereotype, it wouldn't be so weird, but it came after Run2U and Beautiful Monster so it's kinda like..."Why?"

They've simply lost their touch. How do you go from masterpieces like RUN2U to this and BM. Doesn't make sense.

Actually nevermind, because I remember them producing Dilemma which was a great song. They're starting to face the same problem other producers like Shinsadong Tiger and Brave Brothers faced when starting their own groups, and it's that their songs for other groups are better than the songs they're supposed to be making for their own group. They've lost the plot with them and don't have a set vision and this is why we're getting these incredibly basic tracks. I'm finding it hard to believe these are the same people who produced the best KPOP song of all time Likey

    just a reminder tho that

for example Stereotype was written and composed before debut

it became meaningful song for members because they were doing some weekly/monthly evaluations with it

so they wanted to finally release it

I do agree with one thing tho

kpop producers should start even media playing things like:

"With this song we start a trilogy of songs which will be musically connected and the story will continue from song to song"

then fans will be like oh yeah what is it? I wanna know, I wanna hear, this sounds cool etc.

that's much better than jumping like a frog from garden to the pond to the tree to the grass

    like impostor. :pepefrog:

I'm good at this and here but... let's to that lol

  • Honestly girl can't agree more and it sadden me saying this because so far i like every Stayc songs even beautiful monster that wasn't received that well ;( i feel like bep don't know how to expend Stayc concept and sound and all they do is try to hope on the trend one of their songs gathers like Teddy bear is obviously trying to emulate Poppy success, i really hope bep will start working with other producers because if they continue on this route they're going to lose a big chunk of their fans that loved their uniq concept

  • How much they sold ?

  • I find GG's with set producers always go like this: they love their debut, their first cmb is good, the following one is ok BUT then smthh happen and people just want them to move on from that producer that made their first 3 hits

If the change, people still don't like it and I'd they don't change it people say they just doing the same . No win there

    That's very true.

There will always be fans that like it and some that hate it. No one will ever be completely satisfied.

I don't think BEP will stop producing for STAYC since that's their GG, but hope they can be more consistent with approach.

Like, at this point, unlike IVE, AESPA, New Jeans, and LSFM, I have no idea what STAYC's identity is anymore. In the long run though, maybe that'll be their advantage in comparison to the other groups.

  • This is what is said the moment a comeback doesn’t go our way. I hear this a lot with Blackpink and Teddy, but essentially, he perfected their signature sound.

Did we really forget the masterpiece “Poppy,” produced by BEP, came out right before this? Things are so fast-paced in K-pop that the recency bias is strong with us. ^^

I get it, though. It seems worse than it is because “Teddy Bear” could have easily been saved as a B-side and all would have been fine. Instead, they hyped it up only for us to be disappointed. It’s not a bad song, just one that’s not on par with the rest.

Ironically, as cute a Poppy is aesthetically, to me it sounds less cute than "Teddy Bear" and sounds more like something I'd expect STAYC to sing.

But, I had a feeling when someone posted that STAYC was testing "Teddy Bear" with children, and apparently they had a very good response to it lmao. At that moment, I had a feeling that this comeback would not be for me, but it's STAYC so I figured it wouldn't be too out of the realm of things. I mean, kids also loved "Love Scenario" and Twice. All of which, I'm in to.

It makes me wonder if this comeback is specifically meant to target children, and why? Is STAYC going to have some kind of collab with Build-A-Bear? It'd make me feel better about the future if they did lol.

  • The entire purpose of them making their own group was to compose for them. It doesn't make sense otherwise. Their only skill is being good composers, they aren't great managers or visionaries. It was all about "Damn, Twice songs are such hits but we get minimum, lets make our own group so that we reap all the benefits".

Well, turns out Twice was as important in turning those songs into hits as the guys who composed them :pepe-shrug:

In short their greed failed them.

Oh, I'm totally with you on that. I loved "Poppy" because it sounded like the perfect song for a STAYC Japanese debut. It established their identity as a group and showcased their strengths. I brought "Poppy" up in defense of BEP — to imply that the duo is definitely still capable of producing great hits for STAYC.

This makes me wonder if "Teddy Bear" is something experimental BEP wanted to do. Similarly to how you felt, I speculated "Teddy Bear" was not an actual comeback, but a CF of some sort. Also thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea either.

Hopefully after this comeback, Rado will have a better idea of what works and what doesn't.
