RE: So why did Seulgi solo flop (but Wendy didn’t)?

  • Seulgi's solo flopped? :whatr: This is why it's nice to not gaf about charts.

Listen to this delightful mini. :lover4:

  • i don’t really pay attention to charts that much but in my opinion seulgi’s solo was considerably good. 28 reasons was pretty catchy. i haven’t listened to wendy’s solo though, i guess i’m getting quite behind on RV at this point :pepe-back-away:

  • It depends on how you define flop. Kpop fans tend to call something a flop if it doesn’t chart well, regardless of sales. Seulgi has sold really well, so I personally wouldn’t call it a flop.

From the company’s perspective, it’s a hit - the album has sold 205K copies, which would make it platinum in sales, This is pretty damn impressive for a soloist - male or female - where numbers are typically lower (Baek’s million is the exception, not the rule but I think it’s made people think soloists sell more than they actually do) and more so since she is not the main vocalist or the most popular member.

Just to put this in perspective about soloist numbers. This list was just as Seulgi was releasing, so she’d be 4th for women and 7th for men. (It’s worth noting the top three men are trot/ballad singers, so if you’re trying to compare apples to apples, you should probably start at #4 for men for comparisons.)

The tt, while not charting well in Korea, is charting well on QQ Music in China - it was #1 on QQ music for a month before dropping to #6. Most of the bsides also charted in the top 10. (Dead Man Runnin) definitely had longevity.

A few other notes, because I went poking around on this question beyond sales..

Apparently the song had some virality, making Spotify’s viral charts.
