Kpop idols you think have wasted potential

Well potential depends on the context and the contexts are unknown until tried out.
So the only case I know where there was huge "proof of concept" yet was utterly wasted by K-pop agencies, was IOI.
Yes. the season 1 of Produce was experimental and agencies could not have predicted the results. But once they found out how popular the results were, they should have pivoted and continued with the group for a much longer time.
But they did not, and 8-9 months it was done.

So I won't say particular idols but I think the "Role" of 'Main Dancer' is 100% underutilized.
Main vocals get to do belts and runs throughout the song to show case their talents.
Main rappers most songs get a section of the song cut out just for them so they can unleash da beast on a given track, with a key change / separate stand alone scene which is usually a "killing part"
Main dancers get maybe 10 seconds of a dance break (which sometimes will cut away from them to show other members or some scene in the MV) - I just want a fixed camera so I can see them bust ass for a solid 10/20 seconds of an MV. No real excuse when alot of MVs come in under 3:30.

Anyone who is not a main vocal in NCT (and even some of those). Because there’s so much depth there, there are very talented vocalists who would be mains or leads in other groups that don’t get very many lines. Even the rappers have solid singing voices, but because the mains are such powerhouses, they get little time.
(Tbf, I’m not a proponent of giving people equal time. Like I don’t want to cut a glorious Taeil or Xiaojun or Renjun moment to make room for others but I do think sometimes it’s a bit unfortunate that even though some of these vocalists can outsing some main vocalists in other groups but don’t always have the chance to show it off.)
