I understand that Kpop is Korean but isn't it sad that Knetz decide which group blow up and which goes to nugudom?

  • what is your take on it?

because for me it seems they are biggest example of bandwagon effect lol

    It's like:

I'm gonna stan this new group because there is 1000 posts on forum about them

and when that person grows up will be like:

I'm gonna open a cafe because cafes are trendy these days

and then that person will be:

but it worked with that Kpop group

so why I bankrupted when there are 90 000 other cafes around?

  • To an extent I suppose. It will always be a little sad when a group puts out good music but it goes under the radar because they don’t care about looking at groups that aren’t popular. But it’s also like… what can you do? Can’t force people to look at something.

You can only do your best to support and spread the word to people willing to listen. I guess take it easy and enjoy the ride.

This. It sucks that many people don't enjoy a large portion of k-pop idols, but what we can do is just not worry about it imo. Oh, somebody doesn't like golcha? More for me I guess lol.

  • It’s not limited to Korea. And not limited to idols. It’s human nature to think something is better when many people are liking it. For example, if you are at a town you never been before, you would try to find a restaurant that has many customers because it seems that the restaurant has good food compared to the one without any customer.

That’s why successful business use blue ocean strategy and don’t follow the crowd.

  • Bit of a chicken and the egg problem here.

How many new groups recently introduced by the big 4 immediately have 100s of threads here, reddit, twitter by international fans. Despite zero knowledge of the group.

And then the groups being debuted by smaller labels basically get no look in by I-Fans from the start. The discrepancy is incredible, and that's before any sort of Korean charting or popularity can impact.

Alternatively, you have 2019 - 2020 Everglow, who were always mentioned in discussions with Itzy/Idle/Izone, yet were complete nugus in Korea. Barely charting in Melon 1000 kind of deal.

Look at DC. They are still more or less unknowns in Korea, and they're well known internationally.

  • kpop is much more than music.

People are not going to listen to all new groups that release music, people have filters and w0ill only listen to some groups that make it past those filters (company filter, show filter, recommendations, ect.)

Even just keeping up with Girl Group releases is hard enough, imagine for fans of GGs, BGs and solo acts.

I have tried to listen to most songs that GGs released this year, but even I am probably missing some super nugu groups.

  • The title doesn't match the OP.

The title makes you sound like WhyKnock who often complains K-pop is better off without the Koreans.

    But I would ask,

Why do you assume it is only Koreans and K-pop?

Are you sure many a talented artists aren't being ignored wherever you live?

But the OP, seems addressing a different subject to me.

That too is not limited to Korea, in US most boys aim to be NFL, NBA etc and do train hard, but eventually they all get filtered out - talents, injuries are only part of the story.

In South America, soccer, In India - Cricket.

These are idolized professions in each such societies, so many youngsters want that.

Yet in all cases barely 0.001% of the aspiring, the trainees, the debuts make it big.

K-pop like these fields are high risk and high reward field. The probability of failures is extremely high.

  • that's the invisible hand no?

the market gets to decide which groups do well and which don't

if more people liked the music/spent money etc etc then that group does well

    if they don't disband???
