There was a post on Theqoo not long ago asking who opened the 4th generation for female idols

The opinions all differed so nobody came to a conclusion

So with Pann's upvoting system, let's find out

Who do you think opened the 4th generation?

Aespa - Next Level vote up

ITZY - Dalla Dalla vote down

The 2nd generation was Bigbang's Lies and Wonder Girls' Tell Me. The 3rd generation was EXO Growl and Twice Cheer Up, And you think that the 4th generation is ITZY's Dalla Dalla? Honestly even as another group's fan, I can tell that AESPA's Next Level opened

Every time people discuss about this, I always get f*cking dumbfounded. ITZY debuted in February 2019 and at that time Travel (Twice, RV, BP) were the best so ITZY couldn't even get #1 in the daily chart. And you think that they opened the 4th generation by distinguishing themselves from Travel? At least try to make some sense, anyone can tell that ITZY is 3.5 and NMIXX is the real 4th gen

    4. [+31, -2]

Dalla Dalla wasn't even able to achieve #1 in the daily chart, what opening the 4th generation?

  • Personally i consider next level as the main starting point for 4th gen ggs era in sk. Doesn't mean i don't think itzy is not a 4th gen group.

It's similar to how i consider mgt as starting of 3rd gen gg era but does not mean rv and mmm aren't 3rd gen groups.

  • Kinda feels like gg and bg generation need to be defined separately, since they don't align. 2nd gen bg started with DBSK ~2005, 2nd gen ggs started with WonSoKa ~2007, 3rd gen bgs started ~2013 with EXO, 3rd gen ggs started with RV-Gfriend-Twice ~2015

I agree, I don't think generations are the same for bgs and ggs. Exo is 3rd gen but AOA and Exid are not 3rd gen despite debuting the same year

  • then why it's not MMM with Um Oh Ah Yeah? both songs were released in 2015 and MMM song ranks higher on Melon digital chart? their release dates are pretty similar?

Mgt - 5.2M uls on Melon

The song had great longevity, 60+ weeks on charts. Pretty much a top song of the year of 2015 along with the likes of big bang bang bang bang. It was even the first idol group song to surpass 100M streams on gaon iirc. Peaked low but made history.

    The mmm song 4.6M uls.

  • yes, commulatevely up to this date Gfriend song has more ULs. But we are talking about what was bigger in 2015 and the only source I have is gaon chart and in digital chart MMM song is higher that Gfriend song. This is why I asked.

No mgt is simply the bigger song irrespective of the other song being higher in 2015. Mgt stats + impact out does mmm song by a long shot. Yeah mgt doesn't have the best peak but overall it's big. Like just by the fact it did 100M streams before any idol song back then.

Keep in mind that Gfriend debuted that year and was from a small company. Mmm most probably was better established.

For now, based on data I see, i disagree with the statement that Gfriend song opened 3rd gen for girl groups.

The stats are literally in front of you lol.

Even if you don't consider mgt, the closest will be rough /cheer up. So 2016 will then be the starting point anyways. Before that 3rd gen ggs had no impact either.

Anyways this is the first time i heard of this mmm song while mgt is given national hit level status by many.

I guess it's an equivalent song ? But ul wise it has only 4.5M . That's less than the mmm song. But do we consider exid a 3rd gen gg? I mean for bgs exo who debuted in 2012 in considered as start of 3rd gen but for ggs I feel no one considers these groups as 3rd gen.
