K-pop group names that you didn't like at first but now don't even recognize as weird/funny?

  • The Boyz. And now I can't imagine them being something different.

Actually all of the kpop groups names are weird for me at first and then I get used to them (well at least most of them).

  • I just had the grand revelation after 10+ years being into KPOP that 2NE1 can be read as "To Anyone" and my mind is blown lmao. That's actually a decent name.

YG so far has had the history as the least cringey names. Big Bang, 2NE1,Winner, iKON, Black Pink, and Treasure. Though they are about to lose that privilege with the name Baby Monster. But, I am noticing a pattern now that they tend to play it safe with BG names, but caution to the wind when it comes to the GG names.

  • Most of them lol. Le Sserafim, NewJeans, Xdinary Heroes, 2NE1, Fromis_9, IZ*ONE, Gugudan, Kep1er, Weki Meki, Bugaboo, and I am sure I am forgetting some.

But, I always think of them as weird and some of them grow on me.

    Like, LSFM, NJ, and IZ*ONE.

Gugudan, Bugaboo and Weki Meki... I will never get used to those. Why do the company hate their girl groups?

MissBehave, I'm disappointed in you. Anyway, let me deliver what you're asking for.

    1) Children are short. As MissBehave knows, most of them are on the shorter side. Hence, height-wise, they look short, and thus, a bit like children in the height department.

    2) Most of them were young when they debuted, so that could be taken in a more literal sense.

    3) They act like children, so the name fits.

    4) They all came from and (pre-debut) visited different parts of the world, like Australia, the US, Malaysia, Korea and so on, so in that sense, they were all stray before they came together as Stray Kids.

    5) Some of them had/have some mental struggles and felt sad and lonely and didn't even know if being an idol would work out or not for them, or if they would even debut, and they were astray in that aspect, unsure of what future path to continue on, but once they found their reason to stay, they did.

Long story short, it's because they used to be astray and because they're child-like in a lot of ways. Also, I found this online:

"Stray Kids — Their group name is sort of a play on the phrase “children out of the house” which means lost kids. Their concept is wild and carefree teens."

Pick and choose which explanations make the most sense to you.

  • You have probably heard this from a lot of users already, but you are a lovable and amazing person. I haven't seen you be so mad over something another person did even when they're shading Stray Kids, BP, Twice, and all your other faves. Instead, you try to come from a compassionate place and understand, even though others cannot offer the same understanding to you (and your favorite groups). Your passion also shows in how carefully you tell stories about the groups you follow, and that is also another thing that's admirable about you

Thank you! You're just as lovable and amazing though, don't discredit yourself! Oh, I have gotten mad at stuff like that before, and even had a few fanwars, I'm not perfect after all, but that's all months old and all in the past. Character delevopment.

I do try my best to do that. I have this natural reflex in which I always assume the best in people (I know it sounds good, but it's more of a double edged sword than anything). When someone is shady towards my faves, I just assume they don't know better, so I try to politely correct them, or even meet them on a middle ground somewhere. After all, as much as I love my faves, I know they aren't perfect and on a few occasions, the antis even have a valid point.

Again, thank you! I'm really glad you noticed that. With the exception of Twice, that I'm gradually getting into, I tend to know a lot of stories and details about the groups I stan, and I love to share them. If I like the stories, I'm sure others will as well after all. Or so goes my reasoning. Plus, I like to tell stories too, so that helps.

I'm really happy that you admire me and this did make my day to read. Thank you so much for saying all of this.

  • Ah, nah. Thank you though I'm still far behind you on that character development journey.

Yeah, I just had to compliment you. Your presence here on AKP is soothing
