kinda agree with the first comment, Bigbang is still immensely popular in korea even after being in one of the worst scandals in kpop and Bts is just a whole new level overseas

I really think it’s BTS because if you look at the age range, nearly all age knows BTS during their golden age (now). I’m sure Bigbang were popular but not everyone especially politicians or movers and shakers won’t necessarily know them or sought them out like they did with BTS. But I think both are the most popular groups in their respective eras in Korea. Internationally of course there’s no competition

Actually the truth is there is no one other than BTS & (slightly) Lim Young Woong known across all genders and ages in Korea amongst musicians.

Another fun, but impossible exercise.

K-pop itself has changed drastically in market dynamics, that such comparisons will eventually fail.

And Big Bang has had multiple peaks, almost 8-9 years apart, and maybe one in future.

They have dominated both in physical and downloads era.

Whereas BTS is dominant in the streaming era, are they capable of going on a hiatus and then still peak again.

Only time will tell.

I think it is BTS and I dont think it is particularly close.

BB certainly is very well known in SK and Japan but everywhere else? BTS is kpop.

After running complex qualitative and quantitative formulas through multiple computation programs the answer I received was:

I'd say BTS.

I’d say Big Bang’s songs were popular with the general public back in the day and still right now but their domestic fandom even at their peak was barely 1/10 of what bangtan has rn. Bangtan covers all “areas” of popularity, reputation, etc. But domestic digital chart wise this can still be debatable.

Internationally, ofc BTS. Duh.

Big bang can have Korea😉.

BTS has the world😙

Bigbang edges BTS in Korea when it comes to the general public. But BTS have the whole world including Bigbang's touring turf/second home aka J-A-P-A-N.

Nonetheless, if we look at a bigger lense- Bigbang is not even remotely a competition to BTS. This is like asking a comparison between IU (mostly popular in Korea like BB) and BTS which is WhyKnock specialty 😂
