Copying number-one who asked about girl groups here. There were a few comments that it's been pretty lackluster for girl group debuts so far this year, so wondering how we feel about boy groups.

Let me know if I missed any! I just referenced wiki.

  • Listening to all of them this morning. I was going to shove it all into one post, but the first one I clicked on was SO good and I've heard zero about them, so now I want to give them their own post.

First up: TAN - Du Du Du

This song is so jazzy! I really love it. That opening alone is such a hook. The choreography is awesome with the point dance, and the rap break down fit in really nicely. I can definitely see me replaying this one a lot.

  • Third song: TEMPEST - Bad News

Right away, I'm thinking that it's been ages since I've seen a bg debut with this kind of concept. It kind of gives me B1A4 vibes in that sense of just immediately being colorful and fun.

The chorus is really infectious and fun. :happyr: Here comes bad news, news!

Three songs in, and I'm starting to feel like people are sleeping on the bg debuts. So far, they've all offered something a bit fresh compared to the big players on the scene.

  • Fourth song: TNX - Move

Full disclosure, I definitely know I've listened to this one before, because I saw an anon snicker about "Psy's new group is failing."

I'm actually glad I listened to the other songs, otherwise my default would have just been to use my vote on this one. Now, I'm not so sure! I really like this song. You can see where Psy is wanting to take his company between Jessi, Dawn, Psy's own solos, and now this one. They're shaping up into a company with a strong color.

I like the dance with all the hand movements, and the instrumental is really intense. :pepe-dj: I suspect that, if you like Psy's other artists (especially Jessi with her serious breakdown choruses), you'll like this one.

  • Fifth song: Younite - 1 of 9

If TEMPEST is B1A4, then Younite is Boyfriend. I'm amused I made the earlier comparison because when Boyfriend and B1A4 both debuted, there was a lot of talk about which cute bg did people like most.

Younite's a bit cuter than TEMPEST is, so the parallels to second gen are there lol. I liked the theming throughout the video and how it tied in so closely with the song. It'll be interesting to see if they stick with this eclectic styling or end up going a more trendy route.

  • Sixth song: BLANK2Y - Thumbs Up

I was expecting something pretty typical, but they play with vocal sounds quite a bit, and it makes it interesting to listen to. :music-raccoon: oh-eh-oh-eh-oh~ It's a little repetitive, but it kind of reminds me of a male version of old T-ara songs where they did a lot of that vocal play.

  • Seventh song: NINE.i - Parallel Universe

It's so smooth! The aesthetics of the MV remind me of SKZ's Astronaut, which is one of my favorites. The song isn't like Astronaut, but it's got that same ethereal feel. They have really sweet vocals that suit the song. It's different from the other songs too with aiming for not cute or hard or funky, but just this very sweet otherworldly vibe. I like it. :lighter-pepe:

  • Eighth song: BLACK LEVEL - Infection

I expected the song to be very aggressive with all the leather, but it's very sing-y, kind of like Monsta X. I wish the song was balanced a bit better so you could hear the vocals more clearly, but it's still nice. I feel like it'd be good music to cruise around to. Surprisingly chill despite the styling.

    Added them and listening now!!

  • Ninth and last song: TRENDZ - TNT (Truth&Trust)

It's got a lot of elements to it, so it's interesting to listen to. I really like the main vocal guy; he's got a nice voice to complement the others. "We can blow it up, we can blow it up TNT" is really catchy, but not overdone. :pepe-grooving: I'm not going to be annoyed two listens from now, lol.

My personal final ranking below (I think... it gets tricky after the top spots), but I think there's something to appreciate across the bunch. It's a good mix of styles from these groups.

    1. TAN - Du Du Du
    2. NINE.i - Parallel Universe
    3. TEMPEST - Bad News
    4. Jinjin & Rocky - Just Breath
    5. TNX - Move
    6. TRENDZ - TNT
    7. BLACK LEVEL - Infection
    8. BLANK2Y - Thumbs Up
    9. Younite - 1 of 9
