Everything regarding entertainment has a targeted demographic. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s not a restriction. At the end you like what you like. In Kpop it is young teenage Girls. Just because there are some people who try to mock this with stereotypes doesn’t mean that it’s something to be be ashamed of. I know many try to deny that cause they feel that their faves aren’t getting the respect they deserve because some people mock them for having so many teenage girls in their fandom, so they wanna prove it’s not just teen girl’s “we got granny’s in our fandom too “ lol. Idk why people should prove anything to people who won’t like Kpop no matter who the target consumers are.

Well, yeah, it's pop music.
There's an interesting paradox here though:
The intended target audience is teenage girls.
The composers & other creatives, however, are often (not always) men over 30.
So there's a level of artificiality and projection going on, like with all children's media.
When it's done well, it has universal appeal.
But when it's done badly, it goes beyond cringe: It's insulting.
The fact of k-pop having a target demographic of teen girls is not in itself a bad thing, but it makes it more likely for a certain kind of bad product to exist.
If you write with no definitive target audience in mind, you're much less likely to condescend or talk down to your audience.

Its the stereotypes that idiotic men have created around teenage girls which is the problem, not the fact that kpop is targeted towards teenagers

Commenting on the K-pop band's performance at the U.N. General Assembly, Corden quipped: "It actually marks the first time that 15-year-old girls everywhere found themselves wishing that they were Secretary-General António Guterres."
Its not the fact that they assumed armys to be 15 yrs old that caused me to fume but the rest of the remark, the fact that this is how he views 15 yr old girls IS THE PROBLEM

Yeah it's always been pretty obvious that's the main audience and as such labels and groups will appeal to that. Of course others can get into teen girls are the majority.
Lots of things are targeted or consumed by specific people. Sports are geared towards men, fashion towards women to name a couple examples.

It’s pretty clear the target audience (at least for bg) is teenage to early 20s girls/women. Why else are they putting 28 year old man in college campus settings and high schoolish classrooms? (I’m in my twenties and it bugs me to no end that they’re still trying to sell me on HS student Johnny, Taeil and Taeyong (all aged 27) or HS heartthrob Jaehyun (25.) Let it go already.) It doesn’t mean its the only people who listen, purchase or support, but it’s clear its the target as a starting point.
As groups age up, the demo shifts and you see the change in the kind of content and material they produce to reflect their aging audience eventually but it’s sloooow to get there (Changmin, for instance, is not pretending to be the campus sweetheart but the aforementioned 27-year-olds are still acting like college students 6 years into their career..)
I’ve mentioned it before but I like that Kpop is often unapologetically focused on talking to girls and women. Many other industries talk down to you or use you as the source of a punchline (and that’s not to say that’s not happening off camera), but certainly on camera and with the types of merch, everything is focused to female desires and interests.
I’m not as familiar with the history of gg, but it certainly seems that post BP’s success, there is a greater focus on targeting those same teen girls with gg too instead of men (is this partly why we’re seeing an increase in gg sales?)
I do wonder when we’ll see the shift to talk to more parts of the market. As the more globally successful 3rd Gen ages up, how will this change who and how Kpop markets to them?
As an example, the NFL (American football) was traditionally targeted towards men, but about 5 or so years ago, began a very aggressive marketing campaign towards women several years ago once it realized it wasn’t speaking to a passionate portion of its audience with powerful spending power and continues to maintain to this day. Contrary to the belief that women don’t like sports, 47% of NFL fans are women. What I began to see were commercials where women were just as aggressively talking stats or planning their fantasy football teams (and not played as a joke), merchandise that was more flattering and stylish and designed for female bodies and little girls running around in the flag football kids league ads.

I misunderstood, I still agree though. People shouldn't be afraid to like something which is aimed at a younger or/and female audience
